The Dream Resource Center (DRC) at Los Angeles Valley College supports undocumented students throughout their educational journey. We are proud to provide accurate information about how to access and experience higher education. We offer a variety of services and resources to promote the success of our current and prospective students.

Originally from Mexico, Mr. Carbajal-Ramos started his academic career over 17 years ago as an undocumented student, club advisor, outreach coordinator, academic counselor, and program manager. He earned a bachelors from UC Riverside in Psychology, focusing on Education and a Master’s in Education from Point Loma Nazarene University.

During his career, Javier worked to develop and implement new recruitment strategies, assisted in redesigning the First Year Experience for students, and as an adjunct counselor worked with undocumented students as a Safe Zone Training Lead.

Javier is an advocate for the rights of all students and a strong believer that everyone can accomplish their educational goals. Throughout his career, he has worked hard to create welcoming places and has lead trainings for faculty/ staff on how to best support undocumented students. As the counselor at the DRC, he support student academic, personal and career goals.

Alej was born in Mexico and emigrated to the United States as an adult. As an outstanding student, she is an amazing example of the potential that our immigrant students can showcase. As a leader in multiple LAVC communities, Alej has shown that she has the strength to blossom and flourish in any community. She is an engineering major and President of the undocumented student club 'Rising Monarchs'. As an asylum applicant, Alej strives to receive a bachelor's degree from a four-year university.   

Alej assists students of various identities with registering for classes. Alej works on several projects that support the collaboration between the DRC and the Rainbow Pride Center as she identifies as part of the LGTBQIA+ community.

Evelyn "Liss" Sambrano

Evelyn was born in El Salvador and emigrated to the United States as a teenager. As an outstanding student, she is an incredible example of the potential that our immigrant students can achieve their dreams. She is a nursing major and the Secretary of the undocumented student club ‘Rising Monarchs’. Evelyn tries to be a role model student by inspiring and supporting other students who are experiencing their journey from being born and raised in a different country to accommodate to their new life in the United States by achieving their goals.

Evelyn assists students of various identities with registering for classes, general questions.
