This is a special presentation of “Entartete Musik” (Degenerate Music) that was banned during WWII: Composers who were targeted by the Nazi regime. The LAVC Art Gallery is presenting "Art is Good for You! Workshop: Sound Bath for Healing Energy" on May 3, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the LAVC Art Gallery (view map).
A sound bath is a deeply-immersive, full-body listening experience. It is an ancient sound-healing practice whereby the practitioner relaxes in a savasana position and allows the healing sounds of traditional musical performances to bathe over them. The music will be generated by singing bowls and gongs. In addition to relaxing the body and mind, a sound bath can balance the chakras by utilizing specific sound vibrations.
What to bring: Yoga mat or beach towel, and your beautiful self with an open mind and heart.
This in-person event is offered as part of the Art Is Good For You! wellness + creativity workshop series, and is open to all current students, faculty and staff.

The LAVC One Book, One College Program is hosting a "Student Project Showcase" on May 10, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Art Gallery in the Art Building.
This showcase will show LAVC student work related to the OBOC selection "Maus" in Fall 2022 or Spring 2023 semesters. Four prizes are awarded in the following categories: Most Creative; Best STEM; Best Equity Themed; and Best Written.
Any LAVC student who completed or created any work related to the OBOC selection "Maus"--either in Fall 2022 or Spring 2023 Semesters--can submit their work. To submit work to be displayed in the Student Project Showcase, all student projects must be dropped off on Wednesday, April 26 from 1:00-4:00 PM to Jenene Nagy and Alicia Bien in the Art Gallery. All student projects must be collected from the Art Gallery on Wednesday, May 10 from 3:00-4:00 PM; any items left in the Art Gallery after 4:00 PM on May 10, will be disposed of.

In this hands-on workshop, students will respond to drawing prompts that foster risk-taking and invite unexpected outcomes. We will explore deep breathing techniques that will engage our spirit and promote inner calmness. This energy will be explored in a non-judgmental space, allowing us to practice mindfulness while experimenting with a range of materials and processes to help generate new ways of being.
