TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Eligibility & Application
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the TRiO SSS program at Los Angeles Valley College, applicants must complete all steps below:
To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and meet at least one of the following criteria:
- First-Generation College Student – Neither parent has earned a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. college or university.

Income Eligible – Based on federal income guidelines.

Documented Disability – Must be verified through appropriate documentation (if applicable).

Demonstrated Academic Need – As determined by the TRiO program.

Complete the online TRiO SSS application.

Upload income documentation before submitting your application:

Provide a copy of the most recent federal 1040 tax return (your own, or your parents' if you are a dependent).

This information is required to verify income eligibility.

After your interview, you’ll take a brief academic skills assessment to help the TRiO team better understand your study needs and tailor support services accordingly.
If your eligibility is based on a disability, you must upload official documentation as part of your application.
Once your application and documents are submitted:

A TRiO staff member will contact you to schedule an interview and eligibility review with the TRiO Director and Counselor.

If accepted, you’ll complete an Intake Packet that includes:

Program Expectations

Participant Responsibility Contract

Release of Information Form

Academic Needs Form

To remain in good standing with the TRiO program at LA Valley College, students are expected to:

Be officially enrolled at LA Valley College.

Enroll in at least 9 units approved by a TRiO counselor.

Meet with their TRiO counselor at least twice per semester.

Participate in a minimum of two TRiO activities each semester.

Maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Stay focused on the goal of graduating and transferring to a four-year university.
