Employment Opportunities

The Los Angeles Valley College Academic Resource Center (ARC) is currently taking applications for both Tutors and Program Assistants. There are opportunities to work as a Tutor specifically in a designated center as well as positions for course-embedded Tutors.

These positions offer between five and twenty-five hours per week. Hours vary depending on the position (Tutor or Program Assistant) and for tutors, the subject and availability. The rate of pay begins at $16.25 per hour and can increase with learning and experience. Please note that your application does not guarantee an interview. If you are contacted for an interview, that interview does not guarantee employment.

In order to qualify for an interview as a Tutor, you would first need to:

  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative and last semester GPA of 2.0 in all coursework completed.

If you meet these requirements, then you may apply!

There are three steps:

  1. Apply – First, complete an electronic APPLICATION. In the application you need to submit a recommendation form from faculty (for Tutor position) or professional reference (for Program Assistant position). You can download ARC Faculty Recommendation form (for tutor) and ARC Professional Recommendation form (for Program Assistant).
  2. First Interview – If you have both an application and a letter of recommendation on file, your application will be forwarded to a supervisor for that area. If there is an opening available, that supervisor may contact you to arrange a first interview with you.
  3. Final Instructions – If you are selected, you will be given additional instructions to complete paperwork and training.

Deadline to Apply

While there is no official cutoff date to apply, most Spring semester positions will be filled by November and Fall semester positions will be filled by April. Note that, the applications that are submitted before the deadline are given the priority. If there are no positions available, your application will be rolled over to the next semester. We receive far more applications than we have positions available. This is a competitive process, so please note that not everyone who meets minimum qualifications will be interviewed, and not everyone who is interviewed will be hired. If there are no paid positions available or you do not qualify to be a paid tutor, you may qualify to volunteer for 4 to 6 hours per week.
