Upward Bound/Upward Bound Math & Science Eligibility & Application

To be eligible for participation in the Upward Bound (UB) or Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) programs at LAVC, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Attend one of the following target schools:

  • UB: Van Nuys High School or Ulysses S. Grant High School

  • UBMS: Ulysses S. Grant High School or Robert Fulton College Preparatory

• Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

• Be a first-generation college student (neither parent has earned a bachelor’s degree or higher)

• Demonstrate a need for academic support services, such as assistance with:

  • Academic performance

  • Counseling and mentoring

  • College preparation and planning

• Meet the federal income guidelines established by the U.S. Department of Education

  • Income Guidelines

• Meet all additional eligibility guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Education

  • Federal Eligibility Requirements

1. Complete the online application

2. Allow up to two weeks for a response after submission

3. If eligible, the student and parent/guardian will be invited for an interview
