Information for Graduates
Important Tips for Graduates
- Do not opt-out of receiving Cranium messages from Los Angeles Valley College or Los Angeles Community College District. Opting out will result in you missing out on receiving an invitation and other important deadlines for graduation.
- Make sure to check your student email on a regular basis for important deadlines. Check your spam/junk folder as well. The graduation ceremony reservation will only be sent to your student email.
- Make an appointment with a counselor ahead of time. The deadline to submit a graduation petition is March 14, 2025, so make sure to schedule an appointment with a counselor before the deadline.
- All graduates must report to Monarch Archery Range next to Monarch Stadium and off of Parking Lot G at 7:30AM. Please see click the campus map to see the location of the Archery Field. Do not go directly to Monarch Stadium.
- You must wear a black cap and gown. You may purchase your cap and gown at the LAVC Bookstore.
- Stiletto Heels are not recommended. Wear flat shoes, wedges, platform shoes, or comfortable shoes.
- Pets or animals are not allowed. If you have a service animal, please make sure to contact the Office of Student Life at least three days ahead of the ceremony. Emotional support animals are Not considered service animals.
- Children are not allowed to walk with graduates. Please make the appropriate child care arrangements.
- Tickets will not be issued this year for guests. Admittance to the ceremony will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Graduation Rehearsals
Two rehearsals will be held on campus at the Monarch Stadium to prepare candidates for graduation to participate in the Commencement Ceremony. We highly encourage the graduating students to attend rehearsals. Rehearsals will last about an hour, and students may attend at least one rehearsal date.

Where to Meet on Graduation Day
Graduates should arrive by 7:30AM at the Archery Range by Monarch Stadium. Arrive early to ensure you have time to park and arrive to the Stadium. Your guests should not go with you to the Archery Range. Guests may start arriving to the Stadium when the gates open at 8:00AM. The closest parking location is the Parking Structure. All parking locations will be free on Graduation Day (do not park in staff spaces). See the campus map for directions and lots to park.
How to Purchase Your Cap and Gown
Students participating in the ceremony must wear a BLACK cap and gown. Please visit or contact the LAVC Monarch Bookstore at (818) 947-2313 for more information on how to purchase a cap and gown. Graduation merchandise will be available for purchase soon sometime in March 2025.
PRICES: These prices are from 2024 and are subject to change.
- Cap, gown and insignia tassel: $49.95 plus tax
- Sash: $44.95 plus tax
- Diploma Holder Cover: $13.95
- Gold honor cords: $14.95 plus tax (Student must be on a list provided to the bookstore to purchase this cord)
How can I share which college/university I will be transferring to?
We want to recognize all LAVC graduates who are transferring to four-year colleges and universities in Fall 2025 on the LAVC electronic marquees.
Please email @email with the following information:
- Your name
- Student ID number
- Name of the university/college you will be attending
- A screen shot of your university/college acceptance letter with your name (block out your address and university student ID)
The LAVC Public Relations Office will start posting the names on the marquee in June 2025. You will be notified by email when your announcement has been posted.
Receiving Your Diploma
Fall 2024 graduates may have received their diplomas already; however, Spring 2025 "Candidates for Graduation" should receive their diploma by mail after the start of the Fall 2025 semester (approximately in October).
Make sure that your address is correct on the Student Information System. To change your address, you need to fill out a change-of-address form in the Admissions Office.
Please note that the Graduation Office will first certify your spring semester grades in order to issue a diploma. Your participation in the graduation ceremony does not indicate you have completed all requirements for graduation
In the meantime, if you need proof of graduation, you may request an official copy of your transcripts from the Admissions and Records Office, or you can print an unofficial transcript from the Student Information System.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
IN ORDER TO GRADUATE, you must submit a "Graduation Petition" by March 14, 2025 for your name to appear in the graduation program. Please call the Admissions and Records Office at (818) 947-2553, email @email, or visit the Admissions and Records Office in person or their Virtual Desk.
Getting Ready to Graduate FAQs
You are strongly encouraged to meet with a counselor to Petition to Graduate. The deadline to petition is March 14, 2025.
If you are unable to schedule an appointment with a counselor, you may petition to graduate online through the Student Portal under the Academic Records tile. Your petition will then be reviewed by a counselor and approved if you are eligible for graduation.
Students who have completed an Associate Degree during Summer 2024, Fall 2024, and Winter 2025 are invited to participate in Commencement.
Students who will be completing an associate degree at the end of Spring 2025 may also take part in the Commencement Ceremony as candidates for graduation.
The Office of Student Life will send invitations via email by April 30, 2025 to students who completed their Associate Degree requirements in Summer 2024, Fall 2024, and Winter 2025.
If you are completing your degree requirements in Spring 2025 and you have submitted your Petition to Graduate no later than March 14, 2025, you will also be invited to take part in the graduation ceremony
Before the Ceremony FAQs

If you do not receive your invitation by April 30th, please contact the Office of Student Life at (818)-778-5516. Seat reservations for Commencement must be made by early May 30, 2025.
The 2025 Commencement Ceremony will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 9:00am in Monarch Stadium. For more information, please visit LAVC Commencement. Tickets will NOT be required for the event.
You must meet the overall GPA eligibility to receive a gold honors cord. The LAVC Bookstore receives a list of graduating students who are eligible to purchase the honor cords.
You must present a form of ID (either CA ID or Student ID) at the bookstore to buy your gold cord. The cost of honor cords are $14.95. Check with LAVC Bookstore staff about honor cords in person or call at (818) 947-2313 in Spring 2025.

Diplomas are not distributed during Commencement. The Graduation Office will verify that you have completed all the requirements for your degree before you can receive your diploma.
Students who will graduate in Summer 2024, Fall 2024, and Winter 2025 should receive their diplomas by Spring 2025. Students who will graduate in Spring 2025 will receive their diplomas during Summer 2025.
Your diploma will be sent to the Mailing Address on record. Please make sure this address is current. You may update your Mailing Address in your Student Portal.
Please be aware diplomas are not a legal document. Your Degree will be posted on your official transcript. If you need to provide proof of degree, an official transcript may be ordered online from your Student Portal or visit the LAVC website for instructions to order your official transcripts through Parchment here: LAVC Order Transcripts.
Eligible students will receive several emails from the Los Angeles Valley College with details about reserving your seat for the Graduation Ceremony. The deadline to reserve your seat is on May 30, 2025. It is suggested that you do not opt-out of emails from LA Valley College to ensure you do not miss the commencement emails. For questions you can call the Office of Student Life at (818) 778-5516.
Cap and gowns are now available to purchase at the LAVC Bookstore. To purchase a cap and gown, please visit or contact the LAVC Bookstore at (818) 947-2313. Link to Bookstore website: LAVC Bookstore.
Please contact the Office of Student Life via Cranium Cafe or at (818) 778-5516 ahead of the reservation deadline of May 30, 2025. Sending a request after the reservation deadline does not guarantee you walking at the Ceremony.

Districtwide Graduation Events FAQs
The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) hosts additional district-wide ceremonies unrelated to our LAVC graduation ceremony. These ceremonies include: Black Graduation, Mi Gente Graduation, Asian Pacifika Desi American Graduation, and Lavender Graduation. These events are NOT hosted at LA Valley College.
