Black History Month at Valley

February 2: Umoja Orientation on February 2, 2023, from 1:00pm to N/A at Fireside.  This is an in-person event for all current students. Spring program orientation for prospective Umoja students.

February 8: Umoja Village Expansion Opening and Orientation on February 8, 2023, from 1:00pm to at Umoja Village, CC 102. This is an in-person event for all current students. Umoja Village space expansion opening and orientation for Umoja students and LAVC community.

February 9: Umoja Black Scholars Program, LAVC Health Dept. is presenting The Healing Power of a Curious Conscience: A Mental Health Conversation for Marginalized Folx in a White-Cis-Het-Christian-Abled-Patriarchal Society on February 9, 2023, from 2:00pm to N/A at CC 102.  This is an in-person event for all current students. Mental health event featuring Thea Monyee in collaboration with LAVC's Student Health Education.

February 11: Umoja Black Scholars Program, ASU is presenting Village Nation and LAUSD African American Parent Empowerment Summit on February 11, 2023, from 8:00am to 12:30pm at Van Nuys High School. This is an in-person event for all current students. Event for current African American parents with students enrolled in LAUSD schools.

February 15: Umoja Black Scholars Program, Art Dept. is presenting Trap and Paint: A Cultured Art Experience on February 15, 2023, from 2:00pm at the Art Gallery Patio.  This is an in-person event for all current students. An art experience event for Umoja Black scholars.

February 16: BHM Ally workshop with Michelle Fowles and Dr. Elliott Coney

February 21: Umoja Black Scholars Program is presenting Movie Night on February 21, 2023, from 5:00pm to at Unity Center. This is an in-person event for all current students. Movie night designed for Umoja Black scholars.

February 22: Umoja Black Scholars Program, ASU is presenting Valley Young Black Scholars Day Featuring ZuZu Acrobats on February 22, 2023, from 9:00am to 2:30pm at Monarch Hall.  This is an in-person event for all current students. Introduction to Umoja with high school students featuring a performance from ZuZu Acrobats.

February 22: BHM Celebration Featuring African Soul International, 1 pm, Student Union Plaza.

February 22: Umoja Black Scholars Program is presenting Heart of a Leader Garden Beautification Project on February 22, 2023, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at South Field. This is an in-person event for all current students. Garden beautification project for current and prospective Umoja students.
