Writing Through the Pain: Turning a Painful Memory into Powerful Story

Everyone has experienced pain: be it physical, emotional, discriminatory, etc. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to this One Book, One College (OBOC) creative writing workshop designed to examine painful events in several stories and encourage participants to begin to write about their own. Adjunct Professor Alicia Bien, MFA, will lead the workshop on Zoom. Also, Licensed Clinical Social Worker Allison Lopez will be on hand. The clinic offers the Pfizer (ages 12+), Moderna (ages 18+), Janssen (ages 18+), and Pfizer Pediatric (ages 5-11) vaccines. Only LAVC students and employees are eligible to receive a $150 Bookstore Gift Card with each on-campus vaccine or booster dose. Appointments are available and walks-up are welcomed. The LAVC Art Department invites all students to  Art Faculty Lecture Series with Professors Jamison Carter and Eugenia Sumnik-Levins. Open to all LAVC students. Please join us at the Art Faculty Lecture on March 23 on Zoom with art faculty present their work and research. Student participants are invited to make an artwork in response to the lecture which will be included in the 2022 Annual Student Art exhibition hosted by the LAVC Art Gallery.

LAVC’s Student Health Education Invites you to join other students for an hour of Yoga.  This Friday at 2:00PM at the North Mall Lawn, in front of the Student Union.  Activities are in-person, FREE, and open to all. Are you interested in Student Government? Run for Office for the 2022/2023 Academic Year.  Represent the student body working with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Perks are a transcript notation and monthly stipend. Reminder—Masks Still Required Indoors

Board Policy 2800 regarding mandatory indoor masking remains in force until further notice at all nine colleges and District facilities for all employees, students and visitors. Apply for Free Emergency Basic Needs Funding with Edquity

The LACCD is partnering with a company called Edquity to allow LAVC students to apply for emergency funding through one convenient online platform. Emergency funds can help you with childcare, food, housing, learning materials, transportation and other health/safety needs. To be eligible for these funds, you must submit an application through Edquity, and be actively enrolled in credit or noncredit courses. FREE Metro GoPass for LAVC Students at the Business Office

Did you know that as an LAVC student, you're eligible for a FREE Metro GoPass? You can to ride all buses and trains operated by Metro from now until December 31, 2022...at no cost!  To pick up your free pass, just stop by the LAVC Business Office with your picture ID. Learn more about the Metro GoPass.

Free COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test Kits on Campus

Students and employees can now get two FREE Covid-19 at-home rapid antigen testing kits per person each week; Theatre & Music students can pick up 3 kits per student, per week. To pick up your rapid antigen test kits, visit the ticket booth at the Music Recital Hall (view map) on Monday-Thursday from 8:45 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday from 8:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; please show your student ID or employee ID. Cesar E. Chavez Day Holiday

Thursday, March 31

The campus is closed for the Cesar Chavez Day holiday. Some campus offices and services will reopen on Friday, April 1; some offices may also be open during Spring Break (April 2-8). Saturday classes will resume on Saturday, April 9, and day and evening classes will resume and offices/services fully reopening on Monday, April 11.

Spring Break

Saturday, April 2 - Friday, April 8

Spring Break 2022 is held from April 2-8. In addition, there is Cesar Chavez holiday on Thursday, March 31 and a non-instruction day on Friday, April 1. Classes are not in session during Spring Break, but some campus offices and services are scheduled to be open. Please contact offices directly to learn their Spring Break hours of operation. Saturday classes resume on Saturday, April 9, and day and evening classes resumes on Monday, April 11. The college will resume its normal hours of operation on Monday, April 11.
