Don’t Miss Commencement!

1. How do I petition to graduate? You are strongly encouraged to meet with a counselor to Petition to Graduate. The deadline to petition is March 8, 2024. If you are unable to schedule an appointment with a counselor, you may petition to graduate online through the Student Portal under the Academic Records tile. Your petition will then be reviewed by a counselor and approved if you are eligible for graduation. 
2. Who is invited to the 2024 Commencement ceremony? Students who have completed an Associate Degree during Summer 2023, Fall 2023, and Winter 2024 are invited to participate in Commencement. Students who will be completing an associate degree at the end of Spring 2024 may also take part in the Commencement Ceremony as candidates for graduation.
3. How do I get invited to Commencement?  The Office of Student Life will send invitations via email by April 30, 2024 to students who completed their Associate Degree requirements in Summer 2023, Fall 2023, and Winter 2024.  If you are completing your degree requirements in Spring 2024 and you have submitted your Petition to Graduate no later than March 8, 2024, you will also be invited to take part in the graduation ceremony. 
4. How will I receive my invitation notice for Commencement? Invitations will be sent out via email by April 30, 2024. Do not opt out of receiving Blackboard messages from Los Angeles Valley College or Los Angeles Community College District. Doing so will result in you missing or not receiving an invitation email. Check your spam/junk mail as well. If you do not receive your invitation by April 30th, please contact the Office of Student Life at (818)-778-5516. Seat reservations for Commencement must be made by May 10, 2024.
5. When is Commencement? The 2024 Commencement Ceremony will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 9:00am in Monarch Stadium. For more information, please visit LAVC Commencement. Tickets will be required for the event.
6. LAVC Honors:  Information regarding honor regalia can be found at the LAVC Bookstore or Office of Student Life.
7. Other District-wide Ceremonies: The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) hosts additional district-wide ceremonies unrelated to our LAVC graduation ceremony. These ceremonies include: Black Graduation, Mi Gente Graduation, Asian Pacifika Desi American Graduation, and Lavender Graduation. These events are NOT hosted at LA Valley College. Please visit the LACCD website for information on District ceremonies.
8. Diplomas:  Students who graduated in Summer 2023, Fall 2023, and Winter 2024 should already have received their diplomas. Diplomas are not distributed during Commencement. Your diploma will be sent to the Mailing Address on record. Please make sure this address is current. You may update your Mailing Address in your Student Portal. Please be aware diplomas are not a legal document. Your Degree will be posted on your official transcript. If you need to provide proof of degree, an official transcript may be ordered online from your Student Portal or visit the LAVC website for instructions to order your official transcripts through Parchment here: LAVC Order Transcripts.

If you plan to graduation in June 2024, please note the deadline to submit a graduation petition is March 8, 2024. Those who submitted a petition on time will receive an invitation via email. Make sure to check your student email on a regular basis for updates.

District Graduation Activities

Keep in mind that the graduation ceremonies listed below are separate district-wide events. These ceremonies are NOT the same event as LAVC's Graduation Ceremony. LA Valley College Graduation Ceremony is on June 4, 2024 at 9:00AM. A specific reservation form for LAVC's Grad Ceremony will be sent to your student emails from the Office of Student Life. Soon to come this April.

LACCD 2024 Black Graduation Celebration (District-Wide event)

Date: Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 3:00PM 

Location: Cougar Stadium at Los Angeles Southwest College
