The following construction projects are currently taking place at Los Angeles Valley College:

AV Upgrades to Allied Health Services, Music, and Art Buildings

LAVC faculty, staff, and students should be aware of AV upgrades taking place in the Allied Health Services (AHS), Art, and Music buildings from 8/31/2020 - 12/18/2020.

AV Upgrades to Allied Health Services, Music, and Art Buildings

Starting August 31, 2020 through December 18, 2020, work will be taking place to upgrade the AV systems in rooms in the Allied Health Sciences (AHS), Music, and Art buildings.  

This work is part of the 40J AV Upgrade project. Read the 40J AV Upgrade Construction Notification [PDF]. 

Work is expected to begin in the AHS building and run until approximately 10/9/2020.  Dates for work in the Music and Art buildings will be forthcoming. Upgrades will take place in the following locations:

  • AHS: Rooms 136, 143, 148, 149, 151, 152, 155, 156, 236, 238, 239, 243, 247, 248, 251, 252, 331, 332A-B, 335A, 338, 341, 342, 345, 346
  • Music: Rooms 105, 105, 106, 112
  • Art: Rooms 103, and portable systems for 100, 104, 105, 110

Temporary Access Restriction to Allied Health Sciences Lab Building

LAVC faculty, staff, and students should be aware of scaffolding work on the exterior of the Allied Health Sciences Lab building that will restrict access from 8/13/2020-11/30/2020.

Temporary Access Restriction to Allied Health Sciences Lab Building

Starting August 13, 2020 through November 30, 2020, work will begin on removing and replacing the exterior plaster of the Allied Health Sciences (AHS) Lab building. Certain areas and access doors will be closed to pedestrian traffic during this time.

This work is part of the Allied Health Sciences Lab Building Weatherization project. Read the AHS Lab Building Construction Notification [PDF].

Areas impacted from this work include:

  • East Building Area 3rd Floor
    • Top of exterior stairway at 3rd floor: Access across walkway to the South is closed.
    • Exterior Restrooms on 3rd floor are closed.
    • Exterior Elevator 3rd floor access is closed.
    • East Exterior Door of Room 330B is closed off.
  • East Building Area 2nd Floor
    • East Exterior Door of Room 230 is closed off.
  • South Exterior Stair Case Floors 1, 2, and 3
    • Exterior Doors to Exterior Staircase on Floors 1, 2 an3 are closed off.
  • West Building Area 1st Floor
    • Exterior Exit door on 1st floor is closed off.

The facility will not be closed due to this construction activity, but access will be impacted. There will also be construction equipment noise in the area related to the demolition of the exterior plaster walls.

Campus-Wide IDF Upgrades

LAVC faculty, staff and students should be aware work related to upgrading IDF/BDF's in select buildings across campus from 7/23/2020-11/27/2020. 

Campus-Wide IDF Upgrades

Starting July 23, 2020, work will begin on upgrading IDF/BDF's and building cabling for select campus buildings.

This work is part of the IDF Upgrade Project Phase 1. Read the IDF Upgrade Project Construction Notification [PDF].

Buildings affected over the course of this work include:

  • AHS (BDF Room 140C)
  • Campus Center (IDF in Multi-Purpose Room Closet)
  • Music (Whole Building)
  • Art (Whole Building)
  • Business Journalism (Whole Building)
  • Engineering (Whole Building)
  • Behavior Science (Whole Building)
  • Student Services Center (BDF Room 122)
  • Student Services Annex (BDF Room 165)
  • Student Services Center (IDF Room 234)

There is no expected construction-related noise or facility closures associated with this work. This work is being coordinated with IT to avoid disruption to building network use. Building users will be notified in advance of anticipated network outages.

Work is expected to be completed by November 27, 2020.

Temporary Sidewalk Closures Near Music and Theater Arts

LAVC faculty, staff and students should be aware of sidewalk closures effecting Music Building & Theatre Arts from December 9, 2019-January 17, 2020. The closed sidewalks include south of the Music building east entrance, south of Music building between the Motion Picture Studio, east side of Motion Picture Studio, and east side of the Omega Data Center. Directional signage will be placed to route student traffic during this period.

This work is part of the Energy Infrastructure Improvements (EII) project. Read the EII Construction Notification #14 with diagram [PDF].

The sidewalk closures are located:

  • south of the Music building east entrance,
  • south of Music building between the Motion Picture Studio,
  • east side of Motion Picture Studio, and
  • east side of the Omega Data Center.

There will also be construction related equipment noise in the area. 

Work is expected to be completed by January 17, 2020.

Closure of Lot H, Quad Park, and Bungalows 45-47, 50-52, and 48-49 in Preparation for the Energy Infrastructure Improvement Project

LAVC faculty, staff and students should be aware that Lot H, the Quad Park, and Bungalows 45-47, 50-52, and 48-49 will be closed starting on December 6, 2018 and fencing is being installed as part of the Energy Infrastructure Improvements (EII) project. The EII project includes the demolition of Bungalows 45-47 and 50-52 in preparation for the construction of the Thermal Energy Storage Tank (TES), equipment upgrades in the Central Plant, and construction of underground piping for the north loop located at the north end of Monarch Square.

Starting on Thursday, December 6, mobilization will begin for the Energy Infrastructure Improvement (EII) project. The project includes the demolition of Bungalows 45-47 and 50-52 in preparation for the construction of the Thermal Energy Storage Tank (TES), equipment upgrades in the Central Plant, and construction of underground piping for the north loop located at the north end of Monarch Square.

Construction fencing will be erected around Lot H, the Quad Park, and Bungalows 45-47, 50-52, and 48-49. Pedestrian access into the campus will be available on the west side of Lot H as illustrated on this diagram [JPG].

In addition, Lot H will be used for contractor's offices, parking and lay down, and will be closed to campus parking during the duration of the project.

Closure of Southern Portion of Bungalows in preparation for the Bungalow Removal Project

LAVC students, faculty and staff should be aware that the campus bungalows along Burbank Boulevard are permanently closed as of August 23, 2018. New fencing has been installed around groups of bungalows until they are demolished. There are designated pedestrian pathways through the area to allow for pedestrian access into the campus from Burbank Boulevard and from Parking Lot H.

In preparation for an upcoming Bungalow Removal Project, most of the bungalows along Burbank Boulevard have been permanently closed. 

The new fencing has been installed around groups of bungalows until they are demolished. There are designated pedestrian pathways through the area to allow for pedestrian access into the campus from Burbank Boulevard and from Parking Lot H, as illustrated on the LAVC Campus Map.

In addition, College Sheriff personnel will continue to patrol the area. If you see any suspicious activity, please report it to the LAVC Sheriff's Office at (818) 947-2433.

Installation of the Valley Academic and Cultural Center Construction Fencing, Permanent Closure of Parking Lot C & Restriping of Parking Lot B 

LAVC faculty, staff and students should be aware that activities related to the construction of the new Valley Academic and Cultural Center (VACC) begins on September 10, 2016. Parking Lot B will be restriped to delete parking stalls and create a east-west roadway in the lot, and new construction fencing for the VACC project will be installed, and Parking Lot C will permanently close.

Starting Saturday, September 10, activities related to the construction of the new Valley Academic and Cultural Center (VACC) will begin.

Parking Lot B will be restriped to delete parking stalls and create a east-west roadway in the lot. In addition, new construction fencing for the VACC project will be installed, and Parking Lot C will permanently close. In Parking lot B, a number of parking stalls will be removed, and a new vehicle access lane will be striped to create a new two-lane vehicle pathway north of a new temporary construction fence starting September 10.

Following that, new construction fencing will be installed that will permanently close Lot C, and the current pedestrian pathways between the Music Building and Campus Drive to Parking Lot B will not be accessible. New paths will be identified / added to facilitate pedestrian traffic around the construction site. Please refer to this map [JPG].
