LAVC Student-Run Newspaper Earns Top Honors

The Los Angeles Press Club named The Valley Star, Los Angeles Valley College’s student-run newspaper, as the “Best College Newspaper” at its 63rd annual Southern California Journalism Awards. The publication also won the third place for “Best College News Website.”

“This is a well-deserved recognition of the Valley Star and the work of our amazing student journalists,” said Dr. Barry Gribbons, president of Los Angeles Valley College. “To be ranked as the best in Southern California by journalism professionals in our region is a testament of the exceptional quality of the  program.”

The Valley Star won first place over a dozen other community college and four-year undergraduate and graduate institutions. “The mix of stories on the first few pages was great, the paper was easy to read, and well-organized, the photos were sharp and the layout was tight,” noted one of the judges of The Valley Star.
