Los Angeles Valley College is committed to helping you reach your academic goals during Winter Intersession 2022.

Here are some helpful info on how to access your class, get assistance and much more on your first day of class:

Online Classes

Accessing Your Online Class

To log into your online class through the SIS/Canvas: 

Help with Canvas 

To access help in Canvas, log into the Student Portal. Click the "Help" (question mark icon) and select your main college campus. The "Canvas Support" link will take you to a page that allows you to:  

  • Search in the Canvas area for questions related to using Canvas 
  • Search your college area for other questions  
  • If you still can't find the answers you need, there will also be a link to start an online chat with Canvas Support. 

In-Person or Hybrid Classes

On-Campus Safety Check-In for In-Person Classes & Services

If you are taking in-person classes or seeking in-person services:  

  • Take the Cleared4 Self-Check questionnaire before you arrive on campus each day, and check-in with your QR code at a campus scanning station.  
  • Mask are required during in-person classes and while receiving in-person services. 
  • Wear a surgical grade or higher mask, or double cloth masks (highly recommended to wear medical mask and cloth mask together.) Free masks are available at the entrance of your classroom building.
  • If you feel sick, do not come to campus and contact your instructor.  
  • Free on-campus testing is available on Mondays & Tuesdays from 10am-2pm in Engineering 100.

Check the campus map to help you locate your classroom location, and where to access campus parking lot. On-campus student parking is FREE.

How to Add a Class

Adding Classes & Permission Numbers 

Class enrollment on the first day of class is by permission number only. If you wish to add a class, go on the first day of an in-person class or contact the instructor to request a permission number. Learn how to email instructors through the LACCD SIS Class Search.

Once you receive a permission number, use the Student Portal to enter that number by that class's add deadline to be officially enrolled. 

More Useful Info

Get Your FREE Metro GoPass! 

All enrolled LAVC students are eligible to receive a FREE Metro GoPass. This pass can be used to take any Metro bus or train at no charge—until the end of 2022! Stop by the Business Office in the Student Union (view campus map) with your picture ID to pick up your GoPass.

Buying Textbooks & Food on Campus

Our LAVC Bookstore is open so you can buy your textbooks, school supplies, snacks and college gear. To search and buy your required textbooks and supplies, go to Buy Textbooks. Your order can be picked up in-person, or free shipping is available (for textbooks only). 

Food is available at our Monarch CafĂ© (Cafeteria) and at vending machines on campus. Check LAVC Food Services for the menus, locations and hours. 

Academic Support & Library Resources 

The LAVC Academic Resource Center offers FREE online tutoring in Math, Statistics, English and other many other classes, test reviews, and study jams. In-person services include weekly workshops, guides and support for using online tutoring, and access to computers through the Computer Commons

The LAVC Library offers in-person book checkout, study space, and research help; and 24/7 online access to FREE live help at “Ask A Librarian,” online research and reading materials, and FAQ and online “Get Research Help” guides for self-directed learning.
