Faculty & Staff Donate to Needy Families at the LAVC Holiday Party

LAVC faculty and staff got into the holiday spirit at the "Grinch-Mas" themed Winter Wonderland Holiday Party on December 4. More than 170 faculty and staff donated $430 as well as a mountain of toys to "Operation: Santa", which brings holiday presents to low-income families in the San Fernando Valley. This annual event brings together faculty and staff to enjoy the joys of the holidays with a tasty holiday lunch, raffle prizes, and to see who wins the annual musical chairs competition. This year, it also included a "Grinch-Mas" costume contest.

Los Angeles Valley College held its annual Winter Wonderland Holiday Party for employees on Tuesday, December 4 in Campus Center's Monarch Hall.

This year's festive The Grinch Who Stole Christmas-themed celebration brought 170 faculty and staff together for small holiday feast as well as to help those who are less fortunate in our community. For the fifth consecutive year, faculty and staff supported the efforts of "Operation: Santa", a local volunteer group who brings holiday gifts for needy families in the San Fernando Valley, by raising $430 as well as filled a two tables of new toys for "Operation: Santa" at the party.

Since 2011, “Operation: Santa” has brought holiday presents to low-income families in the San Fernando Valley. With Valley College’s help, this year it brought joy to at least 100 families at local elementary schools this year. This is the fifth year college employees have supported the efforts of "Operation: Santa".

Employees enjoyed a hot lunch catered by the Pacific Dining at the LAVC Monarch Cafe, as well as won raffle prizes that were generously donated by the college's leadership team.

Faculty and staff participated in our annual competitive (but always-fun-to-watch) game of musical chairs. Some employees even got into the Grinch-mas spirit at the costume contest. This year's Grinch-Mas Costume Contest winners were from the LAVC Foundation / Institutional Effectiveness / Public Relations offices, who dressed up as the village of "Whoville houses".

The annual LAVC Holiday Party is co-sponsored by the LAVC Faculty Senate, Faculty Guild-AFT 1521, LAVC Foundation, LAVC Staff Guild-Local 1521A, SEIU 721, and Teamsters-Local 911.
