Fall 2018 Highlights from LAVC Monarch Athletics

Congrats to LAVC Monarch Football, Women's Soccer, Men's Water Polo, Women's Water Polo teams for a successful Fall season. Men's Water Polo Team earned its 5th consecutive WSC Championship title and is ranked #2 in the state, Women's Soccer is 13-6-2 and made it to the first round of the So Cal Playoffs, Football finished 7-3, and Women's Water Polo was 16-10. #GoMonarchs

Fall 2018 Highlights from LAVC Monarch Athletics

The  LAVC Athletic Department congratulates our Monarch Athletic teams on a successful Fall 2018 season. Most notably, LAVC Monarchs Men's Water Polo are conference champions for the 5th year in a row, Women's soccer made to the So Cal Playoffs, and Football and Women's Water Polo ended the season well.

The following is a Fall 2018 recap from each of our Athletic teams:

  • Men's Football finished the season 7-3 with 17 football players recognized for their all team accomplishments. The following team members made All-Metro League team conference selections: 

    • First Team Offense: Terrel Love (All-Region IV nomination), Azad Markosian, Kareem Myles, and Brown Tuiasosopo.

    • Second Team Offense: Jake Calver, Jesus Santisteban, and Ingram Scroggins.

    • First Team Defense: Jameer Bryson (All-Region IV nomination), Malik Crenshaw (All-Region IV nomination), Marquis Deweert, Chrishon Frazier, Cash Nicholas, Amir Postley, and Nate Sutton.

    • Second Team Defense: Jaylon Alexander (wildcard selection), Diamond Harrell, and Mailk Martin.

  • Women’s Soccer ended the season with a 13-6-2 record, and made it to the So Cal playoffs but lost in the first round. The following team members made conference selections:

    • First Team: Isabel Kiledjian, Karla Lopez, and Jackie Rodriguez.

    • Second Team: Brenda Florian and Danielle Tilton.

    • Honorable mentions: Giselle Cristobal and Emily Gutierrez.

  • Men’s Water Polo are the 2018 Western State Conference (WSC) champions, which is the fifth consecutive year the team has earned the conference title. The team ended the season ranked as the #2 team in California. In addition, Haik Gukasyan was named the WSC and Southern California Player of the Year, and Jim McMillan was named as the WSC and Southern California Coach of the Year. The following team members made conference selections:

    • First Team All WSC: Davo Araklyan, Carson Arnett, Louis Brunner, Haik Gukasyan, and Aren Sukiasyan.

    • Second Team All WSC: Tony Gevorkian, and Aram Nordanyan.

    • Honorable Mention All WSC: Athur Sefanyan and Marco Vucetic.

    • First Team All Southern California: Davo Araklyan, Carson Arnett, Louis Brunner, and Haik Gukasyan. 

    • Second Team All Southern California: Tony Gevorkian, Aram Nordanyan, Aren Sukiasyan, and Marco Vucetic. 

    • All-American: Davo Araklyan, Carson Arnett, Louis Brunner, and Haik Gukasyan. 

  • Women’s Water Polo went 16-10 this season. The following team members made conference selections: 

    • First Team All WSC: Sumiko Rudisky and Loreny Valdez.

    • Second Team All WSC: Sona Aghasaryan and Bianca Sanchez.

    • Honorable Mention All WSC: Porsche Double and Citlali Maldonado.

    • Second Team All Southern California: Sumiko Rudisky and Loreny Valdez.

The LAVC Athletics Department's Monarch Athletics program comprises of 10 intercollegiate athletic teams. The Men's Football, Women's Soccer, and Men and Women's Water Polo teams play every fall. Spring team sports include Men's Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Women's Softball, and Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving.
