Black Lives Matter: Student Voices

In response to the recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and many others at the hands of police, and the subsequent protests against racial injustice, LAVC wants to provide students with a safe space to reflect, share their thoughts, support our black student community and address systemic racism in the United States.

We have created a Student Padlet, Black Lives Matter: Student Voices, for students to have a space to share. The Padlet norms are as follows, Please read before engaging in the Padlet.

Responses will be moderated before being posted.

We are here to support each other

  • We are here to process together: your emotions are safe on this Padlet
  • We are here as allies of each other. We may not share the same emotions, but we share the same fundamental call for justice and equity

We are here as learners, to learn from each other

  • I will be aware that language is political, and I will strive to be thoughtful and careful about the terms I use
  • I have a lens that isn’t always inclusive of others’ perspectives, especially from those who don’t share my identity markers. I promise to strive to recognize this and to work to hear and understand the perspectives of others
  • We all have a voice that needs to be heard here; people of all backgrounds need to fight injustice and inequity around us.

We look forward to your participation.
