Los Angeles Valley College is committed to providing a safe environment for its students, faculty, and staff. The Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees condemns any act of sexual assault committed on any of its facilities. In the event of sexual assault committed on grounds or in facilities maintained and/or used by the District, any victim of sexual assault who is one of the District students, faculty, staff, or visitors shall promptly receive appropriate treatment and full and accurate information. Individuals who commit sexual assault while on properties within the control of the District shall be subject to appropriate criminal prosecution and/or District disciplinary procedures. Confidentiality is fundamental to all aspects of cases dealing with sexual assault. The names of sexual assault victims shall not be revealed by persons responsible for implementing and enforcing the provisions of this Chapter, except with the consent of the victim. Victims of sexual assault may obtain a list of referrals to community agencies from the LAVC campus police office or the LACCD Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at laccd.edu.
Child Abuse Reporting
Penal Code section 11166 et seq. requires all child care custodians, including administrators, teachers and counselors to report cases of suspected child abuse. Failure to report suspected child abuse is a misdemeanor, however, no child care custodian who reports a known or suspected instance of child abuse shall be civilly or criminally liable for any report required or authorized by the Penal Code. Please refer to Child Abuse Neglect and Reporting Act for a full description of reporting requirements.
Disability Accommodations and Services
Services for Student with Disabilities (SSD) is the program on campus providing services to students with disabilities. Each semester over 800 students with physical or learning disabilities receive a wide range of support services, including priority registration, special parking and counseling. These services are also available to students with a temporary disability such as injury or post-operative recuperation. All services and equipment are provided free of charge to any qualifying disabled student. The following services are offered:

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Information Los Angeles Valley College is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to students, faculty and staff with disabilities in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and corresponding state law. Statement of Policy
Los Angeles Valley College is committed to providing accommodations to students with disabilities to ensure that its educational programs and activities do not discriminate or have the effect of discriminating against persons with disabilities in accordance with Federal and State law and College policy. Academic requirements that are justifiably essential to a student’s program of instruction are not considered discriminatory. Students with documented disabilities are entitled to receive approved modifications, accommodations, or auxiliary aids which will enable them to participate in and benefit from all educational programs and activities on the Los Angeles Valley College campus.
Services for Student with Disabilities (SSD)
Los Angeles Valley College provides support services for students with mobility limitations, learning disabilities, hearing or visual impairments, and other disabilities. SSD counselors are available to help students plan a Los Angeles Valley College experience to meet their individual needs. They assist students in making personal, academic, and vocational choices, and show how best to utilize campus facilities. Prior to receiving this assistance, documentation verifying a student’s disability from a qualified professional source must be submitted to SSD whose disability specialists will determine the nature of accommodations in instruction and testing that will be required by the student. In compliance with Los Angeles Valley College policy, students with disabilities may be found eligible for one or more of the following services, depending upon the established needs of the students and available funding:
- Diagnostic Assessment to determine functional, educational, or employment levels or to verify specific disabilities;
- On-campus mobility assistance to and from college courses and educational activities;
- Disability-related counseling and advising, including specialized academic, vocational, personal and peer counseling;
- Interpreter services including manual and oral interpreting for hearing impaired students;
- Test taking facilitation, including adapting tests for and proctoring test taking by, students with disabilities;
- Liaisons with campus and community agencies, including referral and follow up services to these agencies on behalf of students
- Special parking, including on-campus parking registration, temporary parking permit arrangements
- Supplemental specialized orientation to acquaint students with the campus environment
Complaint Procedures for Failure to Accomodate
If a student is eligible to receive reasonable accommodation at Los Angeles Valley College, the departments and faculty members are legally bound to make such accommodations. Students with disabilities, who believe that they are not receiving appropriate accommodations or that they are being discriminated against because of their disability, may contact the Special Services staff or their assigned counselor for assistance. If the issue is not resolved, the student should contact the College Compliance Officer.
