BUILD PODER Application Workshop

The LAVC Career/Transfer Center (CTC) is offering "BUILD PODER Application" workshops for students who are interested in participating in a hands-on research training program at California State University, Northridge.

Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) Promoting Opportunities for Diversity in Education and Research (PODER) is a funded undergraduate research training program for students seeking to gain hands-on research experience in health, behavioral, and biomedical sciences.

BUILD PODER pairs students with trained faculty mentors and supports academic and professional development with tuition support, research supply funds, conference travel funding, tutoring, and a monthly stipend (and more).

BUILD PODER’s university wide initiative, steeped in Critical Race Theory, aims to close the achievement gap and to increase the number of students from historically underrepresented communities in biomedical research degrees.

The BUILD PODER application cycle is from January 1, 2018-March 1, 2018.

Interested students can sign up to attend one of the following "BUILD PODER Application" workshops:

  • Tuesday, January 16 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the CTC in the Student Services Annex

  • Tuesday, February 13 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the CTC in the Student Services Annex

  • Tuesday, February 20 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the CTC in the Student Services Annex

No need to attend all the workshop sessions; the same material will be covered in each session.

In addition, a BUILD PODER representative will be on-campus on selected dates to speak with students.
