What is an international student?
An international student is a citizen of a foreign country
who has permission from the United States Citizenship and
Immigration Service to study at educational institution in
the United States.
What can international students study?
International students can choose any occupational, associate
degree or transfer program offered by Los Angeles Valley
College.

How do international students apply to Los Angeles
Valley College?
International students are required to provide a variety
of information on their educational and financial qualifications
including:
- International Student Information Sheet
- International Admissions Application
- $ 35 money order for the application-processing fee
- Confidential Financial Statement
- Proof of English Proficiency
- Academic Records
- Copies of the passport, visa and I-94
- 3 passport photos
Students currently attending another college or university
in the United States must also submit:
- A copy of the 1-20 issued by their current institution
- A Transfer Form filled out by the International Student
Advisor at their current institution
- Official Transcripts from their current institution

What kind of testing is necessary for the application
process?
Students whose primary language is not English are required
to take the Test of English As A Foreign Language (TOEFL).
How much does it cost to attend Los Angeles Valley
College?
In order to be admitted, international students must show
approximately
$ 18,000.00 available funds annually.
Tuition $ 182.00/ per unit (x 24 units)
Fees $ 800.00
Books $ 800.00
Room & Board $ 12,000.00
Does LAVC offer an Intensive English Program?
No. Los Angeles Valley College does not offer an Intensive
English Program and students cannot be admitted to the college
solely for the purpose of English language training.
Can international students apply for federal or
state financial aid?
No. International Students are required to document that
they have the available funds to support themselves in the
United States.
Does Los Angeles Valley College provide housing
for students?
No. Students are required to secure their own off-campus
housing.
How many units are international students required
to take per semester?
International students are required to enroll in and complete
12 units per semester in order to maintain their F-1 student
status.
Can international students work to pay for tuition,
fees and living expenses?
No. International students are prohibited from working.
That is the reason international students are required to
document their financial status before being admitted.
Can international students come to LAVC to learn
English?
No. LAVC does not offer English training. International
students applying to LAVC are required to be English proficient.
English proficiency is defined as 500 paper base TOEFL or
175 on the computerized TOEFL. Students from English
speaking countries are not required to take the TOEFL, however,
they are required to show transcripts with grades in English.
Do we have application deadlines?
Yes, the application deadlines are:
Out-Of-Country Applicants
Fall: November 1
Spring: June 1
In-Country Applicants
Fall: November 30
Spring: June 30
Can B-1/ B-2 (Tourist Visa) holder apply to LAVC
as international students?
Yes. B-1/B-2 holders can be issued an I-20, however,
they need to go through the change of status process and
be approved by the USCIS before they can attend. People
holding other type of visa J-1/H-1 must also go through the
change of status process to become International Students.
Do international students have to enroll every semester?
Yes. International Students are required to enrolled
in 12 every semester in order to maintain status.
Do students receive their I-20s before attending
LAVC or after they are admitted?
Yes. The I-20 is a certificate of eligibility that enables
the student to go to a consulate or embassy in their home
country and apply for an F-1 visa.
