Admission Information
To be admitted to Los Angeles Valley College, applicants must demonstrate:
- that they have the English skills necessary to be successful at the university level.
- a level of academic success in their home country
- that they have the means to support themselves during the course of study without working or assistance from the U.S. government.
Admissions requirements are the same for all international students, however, procedures vary based on the type of applicant.

Transfer Student Applicants

Change-Of-Status Applicants
Are you currently in the United States and want to change your visa type to become an F-1 student? If you answered yes, you are a change-of-status applicant. Click here for more information on application procedures for change-of-status applicants.
English Proficiency Requirement
International students must have sufficient knowledge of English to enable them to profit from instruction at Los Angeles Valley College. The college does not admit students solely for English language training. English proficiency can be established by an official Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) score.
- 500 or above on the written TOEFL
- 175 or above on the computerized TOEFL
Academic Records Requirement
Applicants must establish their academic qualifications by submitting:
- high (secondary) school transcripts proving completion.
- transcripts from any college or university you’ve attended
Documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. Notarized translations alone will not be accepted. Translations supplement, but do not replace, original documents. Please remember to send both.
Financial Requirement
F-1 Visa students are required to present evidence that they have financial resources to defray costs during their attendance at Los Angeles Valley College. Tuition and fees are due at the time of registration. Click Here for complete details on International Student tuition and fees.
