Assessment
Assessment and instituting improvements based on assessment are at the heart of the SLO process. LAVC is just beginning to implement the complete Student Learning Outcomes Assessment Cycle. In the Spring 2008 semester, a pilot of both course assessment and GE assessment took place. The results of the course-level pilot were reported in the September 2008 SLO Newsletter and the assessment report forms can be found below. Be sure to also look through the SLO Manual for information on assessment.

A pilot assessment of the Reasoning Skills GE Outcome, focusing on critical thinking, also took place in Spring 2008. The assessment method is based on the Experimental Teaching Community Model. Participants in the seminars included Phyllis Hirsch (Biology), Leslie Hope (English), Tiffany Lanoix (Sociology), Meredith Leonard (Environmental Science), Jim Marteney (Speech), Lynn Polasek (Biology), Rebecca Stein (Anthropology), Cherine Trombley (Psychology), and Nancy Weeden (Psychology). Check back for more information on the results!
