Building a Better Valley College

LAVC's new energy-efficient Allied Health and Science Center, which open in the Fall, will function as a campus entrance.

In 2001, the voters of Los Angeles approved Proposition A and in 2003 Proposition AA to help improve college facilities at Los Angeles Valley College. Los Angeles voters recently approved Measure J in 2008 to further improve college facilities and expand educational programs to meet the needs of the community.

Valley College is currently undergoing a $286 million renovation and building project to renovate existing buildings and build new energy efficient buildings. Existing classroom buildings are being updated with new paint, new furniture and smart-classroom equipment, remodeled restrooms, and energy efficient windows. All new campus structures are being built as LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) buildings.

In 2006 the campus opened its first LEED-certified building the Maintenance and Operations/Sheriff's Station, which was the first new building in over 30 years. Most recently, the new LEED-certified Allied Health and Sciences Center and three new pools in the North Gymnasium opened for classes. Construction has also begun on a new Child Development and Family Resource Complex, which will be the future home of our Child Development Center, Child Development Department and the Family Resource Center. Several other LEED-certified buildings are scheduled to be built including the Robert M. Hertzberg Library and Academic Resource Center, and a new student services building.

With the passing of Measure J, Valley College will add additional projects to improve the campus and its facilities. A proposed list of additional projects include: construct a Media Arts Building, construct a Los Angeles Valley College Community Work Force Development Center, construct an athletic training facility, expand the Planetarium Building, construct a Performing Arts Center, construct a Multi-purpose Community Services Center, construct a new parking structure, renovate and modernize the Cafeteria/Bookstore, construct a Business Technology building, and construct an Environmental Center.

Through the support of the voters of Los Angeles, Valley College will be better able to provide students with a state-of-the-art education to help them reach their educational dreams.
