Antelope Valley - - Superior Grocers, one of the largest independently-owned chain of grocery stores in Southern California, has again partnered with Job Training prior to opening their two Antelope Valley stores.
Working from a field of more than 4,000 applicants, Superior hired 90 full-time employees for the stores that opened in both Palmdale and Lancaster and will work as both cashiers and stockers. The hiring was especially welcome news to these new employees, as the area has suffered from 16% unemployment.
Additionally, over 125 other individuals were hired for other opportunities within these two stores.
Los Angeles Valley College worked together with Superior, South Valley WorkSource Center, and the Employment Development Department to achieve this lofty hiring goal. Also involved were Antelope Valley College, Jewish Vocational Services, and UAW-LATC.
For their part in the project, Job Training helped recruit, screen, and train candidates for the new stores.
Mimi Song, president and CEO of Superior, was on hand at both graduation ceremonies to congratulate and welcome all of her new employees.
The two stores opened on March 3 and March 20, which brought to a total of 28 stores that Superior Grocers has opened in partnership with Job Training. The chain is slated to open additional stores in Oxnard and Baldwin Park in the near future.
