City of L.A. Job Fair Attracts Hundreds

Valley Glen - - Almost 400 job-seeking individuals descended on Valley College Thursday with hopes of finding gainful employment at the City of Los Angeles Rapid Response Job Fair. The event, widely publicized several times over KNX 1070 News Radio, included companies such as Baxter BioScience, Style Television Network, Goodwill Industries,  ITT Exelis, and Time Warner Cable.

Available jobs ranged from entry level positions to senior management. Many of those in search of employment had been recently laid off from local companies, most notably Medtronic, Northrup Grumman, and the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Tony Jaramillo, organizer and senior spokesman for the event, spoke in glowing terms about its success. “Overall, I thought the feedback was very positive,” he said. “I believe it infused the job seekers with hope and momentum, helping them believe they will have a job in the very near future.”

A surprise guest was KNX 1070’s Vytas Safronikas, who recorded several interviews for broadcast later in the day, including Job Training director Lennie Ciufo who discussed the role of employers at the Job Fair. Ciufo explained that besides the many visitors looking for work, there were plenty of employers on the spot who were currently hiring, especially in the areas of healthcare, transportation, and biomedical manufacturing. His goal was to put the two together.

Job Training has played an integral role in employment development in the San Fernando Valley, having hosted numerous job orientations and workshops. Equally impressive is their monthly Job Club, which attracts almost 100 people per event and puts job seekers together with recruiters from local companies.
