There are six Regional Centers in the Multimedia/Entertainment Initiative, the closest sister Regional Center being at Pasadena City College. each Center focuses on specific approaches to multimedia, in order to complement the other centers. The Initiative Centers and affiliated colleges hold a Media Arts Awards Competition each year to encourage and showcase the talents of community college students.

The Awards Ceremony is held in the Spring of each year for projects completed in the previous year. There are usually two locations, one in northern California and one in southern California, linked by live video technology into one state-wide media event. This year's ceremony was held at Macromedia, Inc. in San Francisco, and at the Apple Store in Pasadena.
