2012-2013 Financial Aid Process
After your completed FAFSA for 2012-13 is received by our office you will be notified to complete the following steps:
Log into the Student Information System (SIS).
- Click on "Online forms".
-
All students must begin by“Selecting your Financial Aid Processing School”. If you wish for us to be your processing school, choose “Los Angeles Valley College”. Completing this step will ensure you establish a priority date with our office. Please note that we award campus based awards such as Federal Work Study and FSEOG based on fund availability and on a first come first served basis.
- All students must update the Authorization for Charges page. See http://www.laccd.edu/financial-aid/studentauth.htm for a tutorial.
- Only students who are instructed to do so must update the Educational Goal page. See http://www.laccd.edu/financial-aid/edgoalupdate.htm for a tutorial.
- If you have been selected for verification, you will be required to complete the verification process on-line through the Student Information System. You may also be required to submit copies of your (and your parents, if required) IRS Tax Transcript. New regulations no longer allow the submission of copies of federal tax returns as acceptable documentation to complete the verification process. Learn more information on how to request IRS Tax Transcripts. If you (and your parents) did not use the IRS Data Retrieval process when you submitted your FAFSA, you may now do so by accessing your FAFSA. If you use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool on your FAFSA and do not change any of the data elements, you do not need to submit copies of tax transcripts.
-
Dependent students who are selected for verification will also need to complete, print and submit a copy of their verification worksheet to the Financial Aid Office. A link to print the document can be found on the verification web page through the Student Information System – it will need a parent signature.
Students must complete the above steps in order to have their files reviewed. Please note: Based on the high volume of files,
our current file review processing time is approximately 6-8 weeks from the day you complete the above steps. Also, please be aware that the financial aid office may at any time request additional documentation in order to complete the file review process.
