EOPS Eligibility Information

The mission of EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services) at Los Angeles Valley College is to assist eligible students who have historically experienced economic and educational challenges. To increase access, retention and goal completion, EOPS provides the following "above and beyond" services:

  • Academic, career and personal counseling
  • One-on-one tutoring
  • Textbook vouchers
  • Workshops
  • Priority registration
  • Progress monitoring and other services

To be eligible for EOPS, a student must meet all six (6) of the following requirements:

  1. Be educationally disadvantaged. Must provide proof of one of the following in person:
    • Assessment scores with recommended placement in basic English or Math
    • Prior enrollment in basic English or Math
    • Not a high school graduate or does not have a GED
    • A high school GPA below 2.5
    • Taken previous remedial (special) education classes
    • Current or former foster youth
    • Member of college identified underrepresented group
  2. Have a low income and be eligible for a fee waiver. Must qualify for a Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOG) A, B, or C with $0 estimated family income (EFC) in the Financial Aid Office.
  3. Enroll in 12 or more units at Los Angeles Valley College unless Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) provides the student with an exemption.
  4. Have less than 50 degree-applicable units from all colleges attended.
  5. Be in good academic standing (not on academic or progress probation) at the time of application.
  6. Be a California resident or meet California Dream Act requirements. 

 

EOPS Application Checklist:

 

  • Apply on-line to Los Angeles Valley College at www.lavc.edu.
  • Submit a Board of Governor's Fee Waiver (BOG) Valley College's Financial Aid Office and qualify for BOG A, B, or C with $0 estimated family contribution (EFC).
  • Complete Valley College's Math and English assessment and orientation process.
  • Be enrolled in 12 or more units at Los Angeles Valley College for the semester for which you are applying or have an exemption from Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD).
  • If you have attended another college, please bring an unofficial transcript for every college attended.
  • Submit the EOPS application in person (student must bring photo ID) at EOPS/CARE Office in the Student Services Building, second floor. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Students will be notified of their acceptance or denial by the District issued e-mail account. Students who are accepted must respond within three (3) business days.
  • Admissions is limited and based on the number of continuing students that return to EOPS. Admission of eligible students will be based in rank order of individual disadvantage.  Only one application needs to be submitted. You will receive an email from the EOPS staff indicating that your application has been approved or denied.  Students accepted into EOPS will be contacted by email to schedule an appointment for the EOPS new student orientation. You must attend a new student orientation in order to access EOPS services.
