Welcome to
Manuscript 50, the golden anniversary edition of the Los Angeles Valley College literary magazine! We, the students of LAVC, invite you to explore this site and enjoy our recent efforts in poetry and fiction. Authors’ names appear on the right side of the screen - click them in any order you like to read individual stories and poems.

We’d like to point out that Manuscript has a distinguished literary history here in the San Fernando Valley: this edition marks our 50th year of publication, and the sixth year that we have gone online to reach the world-wide community. Help us celebrate by clicking on the name of every one of this year’s contributors!

The Manuscript editorial staff acknowledges with gratitude the students of English 124/5 (Fall 2014), and English 127 (Spring 2015) for the enthusiastic support they have given this year’s edition, through their submissions. Special recognition goes to student writers Irene Petrosyan, Dion Skinner and Madelaine Grayson, whose respective poems appearing here were winners in the 2015 English Department Poetry Contest.

Special thanks are in order for Karen Casady, Anahit Fundukyan, Mary Howard, and Irene Petrosyan (editor-in-chief), four students who devoted hours of time and enthusiasm to the editing and production of the magazine. Also, thanks to Claudette Bentley, LAVC webmaster, for her help in getting all of this online.

Thanks are also due to those who contributed photos and art for this year’s issue: Karen Casady, Anahit Fundukyan, Rod Moore, and Irene Petrosyan.

Submissions: Manuscript accepts submissions exclusively from currently enrolled students at Valley College, and reads work throughout the year. Short fiction and poetry should be accompanied by a cover page that includes the writer’s name, address, email, and telephone number, as well as the title(s) of the work submitted. Take your submission directly to the English Department office in Humanities 121.
