Important Information for Graduates

Letter to Graduates from the College President

Do you want to be one of two students selected to speak at commencement?

Each year, two graduates are selected to speak at our commencement ceremony. Speakers must audition by giving a speech on a selected speech topic.

Auditions: Tuesday, April 16th at 1:30pm. Please call (818) 778-5516 for a time slot.

Speech Topic: Los Angeles Valley College gives students an opportunity to develop their skills, to refine their talents, and to celebrate success.  Describe how this relates to your experience.

Selection Process: Your speech will be rated based on:

  1. Did you answer the prompt above.
  2. Was it between 3-5 minutes in length.
  3. Delivery - Give your speech as if you were in front of the crowd on graduation day.

For more details, call the Office of Student Life at (818) 778-5516.

Want to announce the university you're transferring to on the LAVC Marquee

LAVC would like to publicly recognize students who will be transferring to four-year colleges and universities in the Fall 2019 on the college's two electronic marquees.

Please email LAVC News with your name and student ID number, along with the college/university you will be attending in Fall 2019 by Thursday, May 24, 2019.

The announcement will appear on the marquee on June 4th, so you can take a photo showing your name in lights on the day of graduation!

Do you have a unique graduation story you want to share?

Have you overcome great personal or other obstacles in your path towards graduation? Are you graduating with your spouse, sibling, or children? Are you a homeless or AB 540 student?

LAVC is seeking a unique and compelling story from our Class of 2019 graduates to share with the LA Times, Daily News and other newspapers, radio and TV stations. Please email your story to LAVC News.

Recieving Your Diploma

Fall graduates may have received their diplomas already; however, Spring 2019 candidates should receive their diploma by mail after the start of the Fall semester (approximately in October). Make sure that your address is correct on the Student Information System. To change your address, you need to fill out a change-of-address form in the Admissions Office.

Please note that the Graduation Office will first certify your spring semester grades in order to issue a diploma. Your participation in the commencement ceremony does not indicate you completed all requirements for graduation.

In the meantime, if you need proof of graduation, you may request an official copy of your transcripts from the Admissions and Records Office, or you can print an unofficial transcript from the Student Information System.

LAVC Alumni Association

You're invited to join our LAVC Alumni Association. For a limited time only, new graduates will receive 6 months of FREE membership! Please call our LAVC Foundation Office at (818) 947-2619 to take advantage of this special offer.
