EOPS Celebrates 50 Years of Student Success!

Congratulations to Extended Opportunity Program & Services (EOPS) on celebrating its golden anniversary this year. EOPS assists eligible students who have historically experienced economic and educational challenges. The LACCD Board of Trustees has designed September 2019 as EOPS Month.

EOPS Celebrates 50 Years of Student Success!

The Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS) is celebrating 50 years of serving students. The EOPS program was established on September 4, 1969 to “encourage local community colleges to establish and implement programs directed to identifying those students affected by language, social, and economic handicap…and to assist those students achieve their educational objectives and goals.”

The LAVC EOPS program supports students who come from backgrounds who have historically experienced economic and educational challenges. Its goal is to increases access, retention and goal completion by providing "over and above" services, including academic counseling, tutoring, textbook vouchers, workshops, priority registration, progress monitoring, and other services.

The celebrate EOPS's golden anniversary, the LACCD Board of Trustees passed a resolution at its September 4 meeting to designated September 2019 as "EOPS Month." The board also congratulated EOPS on its 50th anniversary, reaffirmed its committment to the support of EOPS, and encouraged colleges "to foster awareness of EOPS to promote student success."

In celebration of its anniversary, the LAVC Associated Student Union held a Club Day celebrating the EOPS 50th Anniversary on Wednesday, September 11 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Student Services Plaza.
