FRC's Amber Angel & LAVC Student Parent Speak at #RealCollege 2018

Amber Angel, program coordinator at the LAVC Family Resource Center, and Eden Bryant, LAVC student parent, were featured speakers at a workshop on "supporting student-parents" at the #RealCollege: A National Convening on Food and Housing Insecurity on September 30, 2018 at Temple University in Philadelphia.

The pair were part of a panel discussion that addressed barriers faced by student parents and some of the strategies that can be effective in helping to meet their needs to stay enrolled. They shared their experiences about the benefits of on-campus student parent programming at Los Angeles Valley College.

Their presentation follows a visit to Valley College by Dr. Sara Goldbrick-Rab, founder of the Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice at Temple University. At that on-campus visit, Dr. Goldrick-Rab spoke about ways that faculty and staff can support underserved students by helping address barriers to basic needs, including access to food and stable housing.
