Introducing the California Promise Grant—A New Name for the BOG Fee Waiver!

Have you heard? The California Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver is now called the California College Promise Grant. It has the same application process and eligibility requirements as the BOG and still waives the per unit enrollment fee at California community colleges. Be sure to check the LAVC Financial Aid Web page for more info on the California College Promise Grant.

Introducing the California Promise Grant—A New Name for the BOG Fee Waiver!

The California Community Colleges has renamed the Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver to California College Promise Grant. Although the name will change, the program, including the application process and eligibility requirements, will remain the same.

The California College Promise Grant waives the per unit enrollment fee for qualified students at any California community college throughout the state. In addition, students who are qualified for the California College Promise Grant must meet the academic standards of a 2.0 GPA or higher, and meet the progress standard of completing more than 50% of their coursework.

The California College Promise Grant is one of the many financial aid opportunities at California community colleges. While the new name better aligns the program with other fee waivers of its kind, it can be confused with local college promise programs.

The main difference is that the California College Promise Grant waives the per unit enrollment fee at California community colleges, while the local Los Angeles College Promise Program offers one year of free tuition as well as priority enrollment, placement in math and English courses, and career support and counseling for all full-time students graduating from a LAUSD high school or charter school.
