Monarch Athletics Update—Water Polo's Gukasyan and Coach McMillan named WSC & So. Cal. Player / Coach of the Year

Congrats to Men's Water Polo's Haik Gukasyan on being named the Conference and So. Cal. Player of the Year, and Jim McMillan on being named the Conference and So. Cal Coach of the Year. Also, Women's Soccer is going to the So. Cal. Soccer Playoffs, and Men's Water Polo is advancing to the CCCAA State Tournment.

Monarch Athletics Update—Water Polo's Gukasyan and Coach McMillan named WSC & So. Cal. Player / Coach of the Year

The LAVC Athletics Program would like to congratulate Men's Water Polo's Haik Gukasyan on being named the Western State Conference (WSC) and California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California (So. Cal.) Player of the Year, and to Jim McMillan on being named the WSC and CCCAA So. Cal. Coach of the Year.

The following is an update on our Monarch Athletic teams and the game schedule for the week of November 12-18:

  • The Men's Football (6-3) game between L.A. Valley and Santa Ana College was suspended due to poor air quality on Saturday, and is rescheduled to on Wednesday, November 14 at 5 p.m. in Monarch Stadium; gates open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for students.

  • Women’s Soccer (13-5-2) is advancing to the CCCAA So. Cal. Women’s Soccer playoffs! They will play their playoff game at home against Pierce College on Thursday, November 15 at 2 p.m. in the Grass Soccer Field. Playoff game tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students/seniors. 

  • Men’s Water Polo (23-5) finished as the runner up in So. Cal. and will be one of four teams to advance to the CCCAA state tournament in San Jose next weekend! In addition, the team brough home several individual honors including Conference and So. Cal. Coach of the Year for Jim McMillan and Conference and So. Cal. Player of the Year for Haik Gukasyan.

  • Women’s Water Polo (16-10) finished their season at the So. Cal. tournament last weekend. Congratulations on a fine season!

  • Men's Basketball (2-2) will play in the Pasadena Tournament this Thursday, Friday, Saturday, November 15, 16 & 17.

  • Women’s Basketball (0-2) will play a single game at Bakersfield on Saturday, November 17 at noon.

The LAVC Athletics Department's Monarch Athletics program comprises of 10 intercollegiate athletic teams. The Men's Football, Women's Soccer, and Men and Women's Water Polo teams play every fall. Spring team sports include Men's Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Women's Softball, and Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving.
