Former LAVC President Publishes a New Memoir

Congratulations to LAVC President Emeritus and former LACCD Chancellor Tyree Wieder, and her husband Les on recently publishing a new book titled Matzo Balls and Cornbread: A Love Story. This story focuses on how they embraced each other’s history and cultures, while merging those differences into a life that celebrates both.

Former LAVC President Publishes a New Memoir

Tyree Wieder, president emeritus of LAVC, and her husband Les Wieder, a retired theater arts professor, have published a new autobiographical memoir titled Matzo Balls and Cornbread: A Love Story.

Matzo Balls and Cornbread: A Love Story tells the story about two people of different backgrounds—Les is a white Jewish man and Tyree is an African-American woman—who made a life together and raised a family. It focuses on their family histories, experiences growing up, careers, meeting, married life, and the wonders of parenthood.

Tyree Wieder is also former interim chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District and former interim president of East Los Angeles College. She has received numerous awards for her work in the community, and was President of the Board of Library Commissioners for the City of Los Angeles.

Her husband, Les, who is an award winning theater director and playright, is a past recipient of the President’s Award from the NAACP for “his mission to advance the opportunities available to citizens of all races, genders, ethnic and social backgrounds.”

The book is available on paperback and as a Kindle Book.
