LAVC Students, Alumni and Program Honored by the Valley Economic Alliance

Congrats to the LAVC Speech & Debate Team and LAVC alumnus Daniel Jocz for receiving Steve Allen "Excellence in Education" awards, LAVC Job Training Program and its partner Goodwill of Southern California for its "Business Education Partnership" award, and LAVC alumnus Jeff Falgien for his "Champion of Education" award from the Valley Economic Alliance

LAVC Students, Alumni and Program Honored by the Valley Economic Alliance

The Valley Economic Alliance recognized several LAVC students and an alumnus with its Steve Allen "Excellence in Education" Awards, a LAVC program with its "Business and Education Partnership", and an LAVC alumnus with its "Champion of Education" award at its Board of Governors' Meeting on May 12 at the Vaughn G3 Performing Arts Theater in Pacoima. 

The following awards were presented to LAVC students, alumni and college program by the Valley Economic Alliance:

  • LAVC students Dominique BautistaEvan FeldmanAgatha FerasMaia Gaboian, Ben Hernandez, Mahin Hossain, Crystalbell Miranda, Denise NguyenAmy Lynn PereaNatalia RamosAbdullah Salehuddin, Dion SkinnerAcacia Varnado, Joseph Vaysman and Ajmal Zanher, along with team coaches Kevin BriancescoAllison Bowman and Jimmy Gomez of the LAVC Speech & Debate Team received Steve Allen "Excellence in Education" Awards. The team was recognized for its members earning two team silver medals, four individual gold medals, four individual silver medals, sixteen individual bronze medals, the Bossard-Twohy Award for the best parliamentary debate team in the nation, and Collie-Taylor Fellowship Award for coaches at the 2016 Phi Rho Pi National Speech Competition.
  • LAVC alumnus Daniel Jocz was presented a Steve Allen "Excellence in Education" Award for being a finalist in the 2016 National Teacher of the Year. In addition, he was the 2016 California Teacher of the Year.
  • The LAVC Job Training Program and its partner Goodwill of Southern California received the "Business and Education Partnership" awards. This award is presented to an outstanding business in the community that has partnered with a San Fernando Valley School.
  • LAVC alumnus Jeff Falgien of Keyboard Concepts was presented with the "Champion of Education" Award. This award recognizes individuals and/or organizations who have dedicated their lives to improving education. These individuals are creative and passionate leaders that have influenced positive change in the academic community to improve the lives of children and their families.

In addition, it also recognized the Granada Hills Charter High School Academic Decathlon Team for its national win. and Terry Fischer from El Camino Real Charter High School received its "Innovation in Education" Award.  

Since 2000, the Valley Economic Alliance has recognized and awarded at annual Steve Allen “Excellence in Education” Awards to outstanding K – 12 students, Adult Education Centers, higher learning institutions, and educators who have received a national education recognition. This award was named after Valley resident and legendary entertainer Steve Allen, and salutes nationally recognized achievements in the education field. The awards are presented annually by The Valley Economic Alliance and Steve Allen’s son and TVEA board member Bill Allen.
