Congrats to the LAVC Above & Beyond and Apple Awards Recipients!

LAVC recognized its employee's years of service, new employees, retirees and tentured faculty, and presented the 2016 Above and Beyond Award winners to Fatema Baldiala, Meghan Gaynor Cason, Michelle Fowles, Larry Nakamura, Alex Ojeda, Ellie Rabani, and Hector Salazar! LAVC's TAE Honors Club also awarded its 2016 Apple Awards to Michael Arshagouni, Jessica Glick, Lucas Haley, and Tiffany Lanoix. Congratulations!

Congrats to the LAVC Above & Beyond and Apple Awards Recipients!

LAVC held its annual Ice Cream Social event featuring the Employee Service Recognition Awards, Above and Beyond Awards and Apple Awards, on May 11. This annual event was cosponsored by the LAVC President's Office, Academic Senate, Faculty Guild 1521, Staff Guild 1521A, LAVC Foundation, Teamsters/Local 911, and SEIU 721.

The college presented its peer-nominated employee award called the Above and Beyond Awards for outstanding work in one of six categories. The 2016 Above and Beyond Awards were awarded to:

  • Just Do It - Meghan Gaynor Cason
  • Creativity & Innovation - Ellie Rabani
  • Community Involvement & Monarch Pride - Hector Salazar
  • Outstanding Work Ethic - Michelle Fowles and Larry Nakamura
  • Outstanding Service & Mentoring to Students - Alex Ojeda
  • Fulfilling the College's Mission towards Student Success - Fatema Baldiwala

The Tau Alpha Epsilon (TAE) honors club at LAVC also announced its 2016 Apple Award recipients. The Apple Awards are a student-run awards process coordinated by TAE to allow students to show their appreciation of LAVC faculty. This year, there were 200 faculty members nominated in five award categories. The TAE Apple Awards were given to the following faculty members:

  • Best All-Around - Michael Arshagouni
  • Best Communicator - Lucas Haley
  • Most Accessible - Jessica Glick
  • Most Inspiring - Michael Arshagouni
  • Other Category - Tiffany Lanoix

TAE, which is the oldest club at LAVC, is an inter-disciplinary student honors club that focuses on community service projects. A minimum 3.3 GPA is required for membership. In addition, LAVC presented employee service recognition pins to classified staff, adjunct faculty and full-time faculty for their 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service in the Los Angeles Community College District.
