The campus community is invited to participate Professional Development's B.U.I.L.D. Series college-wide book group meetings to discuss Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein. This book examines decision making, and connects with the work the college is doing for Guided Pathways and students’ decisions regarding coursework choices. Professional Development will also be working with the District to launch an online professional development portal called Cornerstone in the coming months. Stay tuned for more updates!

PD Corner—Join the Campus Wide Book Club & Cornerstone Coming Soon

The LAVC Professional Development Office launched the B.U.I.L.D. Series with a presentation by our own Tyler Prante about Choice Architecture. The presentation was attended by over forty employees including administrators, classified staff, and faculty.

This moves us into our B.U.I.L.D. Series campus-wide book group meetings to discuss Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein. This book, regarding decision making, connects with Guided Pathways and students’ decisions regarding coursework choices. The book also gives insight to our own personal decision making, how we are influenced and how we ultimate choose.

Please consider reading the book, joining a group, or pulling together a group of colleagues for your own book group. We can help you with that!

If you would like to check out a book, they are available in the Professional Development Center in Library & Academic Resource Center (LARC) 200. Come check one out and read with us!

Watch for more events centered on our book, Nudge, in the upcoming weeks!

We are excited to announce a big shift in communication for professional development. In the next few months, we will be working with the district to launch the Cornerstone program. Cornerstone is an online professional development portal where FLEX points will be recorded (beginning with the fall semester).  In addition, Cornerstone offers over 30,000 online learning opportunity.

One way you can begin to learn about Cornerstone is by creating an account in the Vision Resource Center (VRC). The VRC is where the online learning programs are located, including Skillsoft and Lynda.com. Create an account using your LAVC email, and begin to explore all the ways you can learn!

For more information, contact Jeanne Owens at (818) 947-2569 or by email or Sally Raskoff at (818) 947-7256 in the LAVC Professional Development Office, stop by the Professional Development Center in LARC 200, or visit the LAVC Professional Development Web page.
