Athletics Update!—Three Women's Basketball Players Named to 1st Team All-Conference and One Named to All-State Second Team

Congrats to Andora Obi, Diamond O'Connor and Karina Moreno of Women's Basketball! The three ladies were honored with first team All-Conference, and Andora Obi was honored with All State second team. Women's Basketball team finishing second in conference and made it to the Southern California regional playoffs! Also, Baseball brings home wins over Folsom Lake, Irvine Valley and Pasadena, and Softball beat Oxnard. The Men's Swimming beat Citrus, Bakersfield, Hancock and Pierce at the first WSC Meet of the season.

Athletics Update!—Three Women's Basketball Players Named to 1st Team All-Conference and One Named to All-State Second Team

The LAVC Athletics Program congratulates Andora Obi, Diamond O'Connor and Karina Moreno of Women's Basketball  for being honored with first team All-Conference. In addition, Andora Obi was honored with the All-State second team.

The following is an update on our Monarch Athletic teams: 

  • Men's Basketball ended its season with a win over Glendale (66-52). They got edged out of the Southern California Basketball playoffs and ended their season at 8-6 in the conference.
  • The Lady Monarchs of Women's Basketball ended the conference season in second place. Following a win over Glendale (74-29) it is final game of the regular season, they lost to Orange Coast (61-63) in the first round of the regional playoffs. The team suffered injuries of several players this season, and despite these challenges played well against top teams in the state. Three players, Andora Obi, Diamond O'Connor and Karina Moreno, were honored with first team All-Conference, and Andora Obi was honored with All State second team. Adaora, who signed to UCR, had 14 double doubles this year. During Adaora’s two years at LAVC, she has had 32 double doubles and scored 845 points. Karina, who is going to CSULA, was tied for #1 assist per game in the state. Diamond is a freshman and will be back next year. Diamond had 16 double doubles.
  • Baseball has a overall record of 8-6. The team had 2 out of 3 wins over Folsom Lake (5-4, 2-0, 5-7) before losing to 1 out of 2 games against Irvine Valley (3-4, 5-3). It beat Pasadena (4-3) and had a victory at West LA (13-4). The team will continue its 3-part series play West LA at home on March 10 and then at West LA on March 12. It will then go head-to-head against College of the Canyons on March 15, 17, and 18; both the March 15 game at 2 p.m. and the March 18 game at 2:30 p.m. will be played on the LAVC Softball field.
  • Women's Softball is 3-7 in the pre-conference play. It's game against Long Beach was halted due to rain, then then it lost to Allen Hancock (3-8) and Ventura (6-7 in 10 innings). The Lady Monarchs triumphed against Oxnard (13-1 in 5 innings) before ending the week with a lost to Moorpark (1-5). Next up, they will play at Santa Ana on March 14 and at Santa Monica on March 15 before heading home to go up against Antelope Valley on March 17 at 2:30 p.m. in the Softball field. Then, it will head off to the Santa Barbara tournament on March 19-20. 
  • Men's Swimming and Diving completed well at the Golden West tournament. At its first Western State Conference (WSC) meet at Pierce, swimming beat Citrus, Bakersfield, Hancock and Pierce. Next week is the WSC #2 swim meet on March 19 at Santa Monica, and the WSC #3 dive meet on March 19 at Ventura. 
  • Women's Swimming and Diving also competed well at the Golden West tournament and WSC #1 meet at Pierce. Next up is the WSC #2 swim meet on March 19 at Santa Monica.   

The LAVC Athletics Department's Monarch Athletics program comprises of 10 intercollegiate athletic teams. The Men's Football, Women's Soccer, and Men and Women's Water Polo teams play every fall. Spring team sports include Men's Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Women's Softball, and Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving.
