Congratulations to Men's and Women's Basketball on their strong finish beating Glendale, Women's Swim's Caitlyn Heckler for finishing 1st in all three of her events at the Golden West meet, Men's Swim's 800 freestyle relay team on their 3rd place finish, NS  

LAVC Athletics Monday Memo for February 25

The LAVC Athletics Department congratulates Men's and Women's Basketball for their strong finish, beating Glendale College in both the men's game and women's game, Caitlyn Hecker of Women’s Swim for finishing 1st in all three of her events at the Golden West meet, and Mark Mechtovich, Louis Brunner, Toby Jensen and Haik Gukasyan of the Men’s Swim's 800 freestyle relay team for their 3rd place finish.

It also congratulates Women’s Basketball athletes, Sophia Hughes, Rachel Caprina and Rebecca Catillo, for their selection to the WSC East, first team All-Conference team!

The following is the Athletics game schedule for the week of February 25-March 3: 

  • Men's Basketball (14-13) will play on Tuesday, February 19 at 5 p.m. at Barstow College and return to play in their final regular season home game against Glendale College on Friday, February 22 at 5 p.m. in the South Gym's competition gym. Tickets to men's Basketball home games are $7 for adults and $4 for students.

  • Women’s Basketball (8-17) will play at Barstow College on Tuesday, February 19 at 7 p.m. The team returns to play in their final regular season home contest versus Glendale College on Friday, February 22 at 7 p.m. in the South Gym's competition gym; Women's Basketball home game tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for students.

  • Baseball (4-12) will re-play a postponed game, with Irvine Valley today at home at 2 p.m. They also continue conference play at home on Thursday, February 28 versus Pierce at 2 p.m. and they play at LA Mission on Saturday, March 2 at noon. All home baseball games are free admission.

  • Softball (7-3) plays at Barstow College on Tuesday, February 26 at 2:30 p.m., then complete a postponed game at home on Wednesday, February 27 versus College of the Desert, and return to conference play versus College of the Canyons on Thursday, February 28 at 2:30 p.m. Admission to home softball games is free. Softball will also play a postponed game on Sunday, March 3 versus Southwestern at 11 a.m.; the game will be broadcast by SportsnetUSA. 

  • Men’s Swim and Women’s Swim competes in the WSC #1 swim meet this Friday, March 1 at Santa Monica. Women’s Swim was lead by Caitlyn Hecker, who finished 1st in all three of her events last weekend at the Golden West meet. Men’s Swim's was led by the 800 freestyle relay team that finished 3rd with Mark Mechtovich, Louis Brunner, Toby Jensen and Haik Gukasyan, and their 400 freestyle relay team with Carson Arnett, Toby Jensen, Mark Mechtovich, and Haik Gukasyan.

The LAVC Athletics Department's Monarch Athletics program comprises of 10 intercollegiate athletic teams. The Men's Football, Women's Soccer, and Men and Women's Water Polo teams play every fall. Spring team sports include Men's Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Women's Softball, and Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving.
