PD Corner—Don't Miss the Upcoming Classified Staff PD Day, TechFest and More!

Classified Staff across the campus are preparing for their upcoming Classified Staff Professional Development Day on January 18, 2019. They will spend the morning with Dr. Joe Darin learning about their own strengths and how to best use them in their job and their life. Currently, all classified staff is taking the Strengths Finders Inventory to be ready for that workshop.

The work we’ve been doing with the Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative (IEPI) is about to wrap up the planning process and move into implementation. Within our IEPI plan, our focus is to create and implement a professional development program that meets the needs of all employee groups on campus.  That will include: (1) developing an integrated plan for professional development, (2) establishing the structure and process for the professional development program, (3) establishing an annual operating budget for the professional development center, and (4) developing and implementing foundational professional development activities and events.

The new semester will bring more professional development for everyone! Tech Fest is scheduled for January 28 and 29, 2019. Tech Fest will include sessions on the uses of Outlook & other MS Office programs, video captioning, smart classrooms, competency based grading, canvas best practices, & many other exciting sessions!

We will officially kick off our new B.U.I.L.D. (Belong, Uplift, Imagine, Listen, Diversify) Series with an informational meeting in early February 2019. The B.U.I.L.D. series will revolve around book group conversations, video viewings and discussions, and guest speakers. Our first book in the series will be Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein. This book relates to both everyday life and our transition into Guided Pathways. Join us for this first B.U.I.L.D. experience!

The New Employee Orientation program is currently being recreated to include classified staff and faculty. We will pilot our new format in February 2019.
