Los Angeles Valley College Athletics is proud to announce that Matthew White is the new head coach of the championship Monarch Football team, and is a new full-time member of the Kinesiology department.

“This is a win-win for Valley College,” says athletic director, Jim Fenwick. “This will benefit both our student-athletes and our Kinesiology department. Matt has demonstrated his ability to work hard, care for the kids, and coach many phases of the game of football, efficiently.

White, 27, was the assistant head coach/special teams coordinator under Robert Tucker the last two seasons, helping them through a 9-2 bowl season and a perfect 11-0 bowl championship season. He has been serving as interim coach at LA Valley since Tucker left in December, and was responsible for running the daily football operation, strength and conditioning, and recruiting. His official start date as head football coach was July 1, 2017.

Prior to coming to LAVC, Matt worked with Team USA men’s national team under head coach Dan Hawkins in 2015. Matt also worked with linebackers at West Hills Community College in 2015 (under Robert Tucker) and coached the defensive line and secondary at Montana Tech University under Chuck Morrell (2013-15). Matt has had a major presence in the strength and conditioning of our Monarch athletes as the head football strength coach, while working at UCLA as a strength coach and adjunct instructor. He previously worked as the head strength and conditioning coach at Montana Tech University.

White is a native of Montana and attended community college in Iowa before finishing his playing career at the University of Sioux Falls. He began his coaching career at Montana Tech University.  Tucker brought Matt with him from West Hills to handle the strength program and run the special teams. Matt also has been known as a tireless worker in recruiting.
