LAVC Child Development Chair Elmida Baghdaserians and LAVC Child Development Instructor Veronica Getskow recently presented at an annual STEM in Early Childhood Education Conference. Their talk was an introduction on the philosophy of Reggio Early Childhood Education programs in Italy and the connection to STEM.

As the President's executive assistant, she is responsible for managing the operations of the President's Office and will assist in the planning campus-wide events. She joins Ilene Sutter, senior secretary, in supporting the needs of the college.

Welcoming Sarah Song, LAVC's New AVP of Administrative Services

LAVC welcomes Sarah Song as its new Associate Vice President in the Administrative Services Department. She started in November 2015, and oversees the Bookstore, Office Services, Community Services Program, and the college's emergency preparedness activities. In addition, she was recently named the college's ADA Coordinator.

Valley College Selects the 2016 Class of its Athletic Hall of Fame

LAVC will honor outstanding athletes, coaches, and staff that excelled in or made a major contribution to the Valley College Athletic Program at the LAVC Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on June 25. This year, the Class of 2016 inductees include the 1994 Football Team, Dale Beck, Leon Criner, Steve Danielson, Aaron Flowers, Yvette Maufas, Diedra Stark, and Roger Wolff.

LAVC Founding Faculty Member Joseph Nordmann's Estate Donates $840,000 in Stock to LAVC Foundation

The LAVC Foundation recently received a gift of stock totaling $840,000 from the estate of Joseph Nordmann. Nordmann, a former department chair and professor in Chemistry and one of the founding members of the LAVC faculty in 1949, was a long-time supporter of the LAVC Foundation.

LACCD to Receive Up to $1.6 Million to Fund Foster Youth Programs at its Colleges

The California Community College Board of Governors has approved $15 million in funding to support the Cooperating Agencies Foster Youth Educational Support (CAFYES) programs at the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) and nine other California community colleges. The LACCD anticipates receiving up to $1.6 million for the nine colleges in the district, including LAVC.
