SERVICES
CalWORKs students receive one-on-one academic, vocational, personal counseling at enrollment and throughout their career at Valley College.
Individual training plans are developed with approval of DPSS. Information related to financial aid and other grants, loans, and scholarships is provided during orientation.
Based on a career ladder framework and utilizing a comprehensive service approach, Career Pathways to Nursing will offer integrated academic and vocational education and opportunities for continuing and lifelong learning. The project will include outreach, intake, and orientation, initial assessment, job readiness and job search services, subsidized and unsubsidized job placement, support services if not otherwise available, tutor and peer mentoring, and post-employment follow-up activities. Valley Assessment Center
Valley College provides assessment services for the GAIN/General Relief Opportunities for Work (GROW) programs and Learning Disabilities Evaluation services for the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s (LACOE) GAIN/GROW program.
Situated at Los Angeles Valley College, the center is an assessment facility, which serves GAIN/GROW participants. Easily accessible to public transportation, the center is staffed with highly qualified, empathic professionals who have developed GAIN Career Assessment Summary and Employment Plans. Evaluators and assessors are knowledgeable concerning adult education schools, regional occupational programs, private vocational schools, and college programs.
CalWORKs offers counseling and advisement. Counseling, located in Bungalow 13/14, is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students are encouraged to make counseling appointments for long-term educational planning, career exploration, assistance with academic or personal issues, referrals to community resources.
