REMINDER!! Due to the high volume of documents and limited staff, all forms take at least 5 to 10 business days to process. Book requests may take longer to process, especially during the rush period. Submit your forms as soon as you get them from your GAIN Service Worker or CCRC.

 Checklist for students:

  • Student Educational Plan - In order for CalWORKs students to be eligible for PRIORITY REGISTRATION, all CalWORKs students must have a Student Educational Plan on file. Schedule an appointment with a Counselor to develop your educational plan!
  • Verification of Eligibility - Provide the CalWORKs office with a "Verfication of Benefits" or a "Notice of Action" letter indicating your eligibility for cash aid benefits dated at least two weeks before the start of the next semester or two weeks after the semester begins. 
  • Process your Textbook Request Worksheet [PDF: 249KB] early in the semester.  This worksheet is available in our office or by Clicking HERE [PDF: 249KB].  Attach all necessary documents such as "verification of benefits", course sylabus, educational plan, etc...  Turn this worksheet to our office and allow 7-14 business days for processing.  Visit www.lavcbookstore.com to find required textbooks for your courses.  
  • Sign and indicate your student ID # on all forms. Monthly Activity Report (GN6365), Progress Report (GN6070), and Tranining Verification (GN6006, 6005A, STA-20).  Please allow at least 5 to 10 business days for processing. 
  • Attend CalWORKs Workshops. We are offering informative workshops for CalWORKs students. Students must attend at least two workshops within the semester to maintain eligibility for CalWORKs supportive services. Download a list of current workshops [PDF: 86KB].

GO TO THE FINANCIAL AID OFFICE (Student Services, 1st Floor) or visit their website at www.lavc.edu/financialaid/ for more information.

  • BOG (Board of Governors) Fee Waiver - an application to have your enrollment fees waived.                  Click HERE [PDF: 53KB] to obtain the 2014-2015 BOG Application.  
  •  FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Get your applications in annually by March 2nd.  See the Financial Aid office for more details!!!www.lavc.edu/financialaid/ Apply for FAFSA by Clicking HERE.

CalWORKs Work-Study Application is now available. Application period is 7/1/2015 - 7/31/15. Check your email for an application or Click HERE

CalWORKs Work-Study Applications are available for current students who meet these criteria:

  • Currently receiving cash aid for yourself and everyone on case, participating in good standing with DPSS CalWORKs/GAIN Program, completed DPSS Vocational Assessment, and have an open Vocational Education or SIP component.
  • Completed one academic semester (Spring or Fall) at LAVC and have a GPA of at least 2.5 or higher.
  • Satisfactorily completed English 21/ESL321 or assess into English 28/ESL 362 or higher.
  • Completed Student Educational Plan with CalWORKs Counselor.
  • Enrolled in at least 6 qualifying units on SEP each semester.
  • Have not participated in CalWORKs Work-Study prior to application date.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Complete the 2015- 2016 CalWORKs Work-Study Application.
  2. Obtain a "Verification of Benefits" indicating cash aid eligibility from your Eligibility Worker.
  3. Have your updated résumé.
  4. Scan all of your documents into one PDF file if possible.
  5. Open your email and ATTACH all documents in the email.
  6. Type YOUR FIRST and LAST NAME in the SUBJECT of the email.
  7. In the body of your email, type your name, student ID #, and best contact number.
  8. Address the EMAIL to gevorga@lavc.edu.

Completion of this application, is not an assurance that you will receive a Work-Study position.

If eligible, you will be notified by email to attend a mandatory workshop and interview.       

DUE TO THE HIGH VOLUME OF RESPONSES PLEASE DO NOT CALL OR EMAIL OUR OFFICE ON THE STATUS OF YOUR APPLICATION.

WE WILL CONTACT YOU IF YOU MEET ALL OF THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS. CALWORKS WORK-STUDY CAN BE TERMINATED AT ANY TIME BASED ON FUNDING, STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC STATUS, WORK PERFORMANCE, NONCOMLIANCE WITH PROCEDURES, AND OR DEPARTMENT POLICIES.
