The CalWORKs program at LAVC is an education and training program established for students who are receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) benefits.  Our goal is to provide an educational environment where the student may develop the needed vocational skills leading to meaningful employment. The program offers assistance with educational planning, childcare, books, tutoring, paid work-study, internships, job placement, workshops, tutoring, mentoring, and other services.

Participants may choose to work on short-term training programs that lead to occupational certificates or Associate of Arts/Science degrees in:

  • Bank Management
  • Banking
  • Business Management
  • Child Development:
    1. Associate Teacher, Preschool (A)
    2. Director, Preschool (B)
    3. School Age programs Teacher, Day Care (C)

The CalWORKs program at LAVC works as a liaison between the participants and their GAIN Service Worker in order to provide supportive services.  Participants are ususally referred to our program by their GAIN Service Workers.
