A Message From the Athletic Director

Welcome to Los Angeles Valley College!  Our Fall sports are underway and our student athletes are excelling better than ever!  Our Football team, led by Robert Tucker,  is undefeated and  just won their first conference game over cross town rival, Pierce College, to secure the victory bell, home to Valley College another year!  Our water polo teams, led by Jim McMillan, men’s and Pete Loporchio, women’s, are headed for the conference championships next month and our women’s soccer team, led by Greg Venger, begins conference play this week!  Our men and women’s basketball teams are gearing up for the upcoming, 2016/17 season, led by Monica Hang, women’s team and Virgil Watson, our men’s team.

The success that our athletic programs, over the years, is due to the commitment of our student athletes, led by our first-class coaches, and supportive parents and fans.  Our coaches are the best around and committed to the success of our students.  To be a successful student athlete in community college requires a great deal of time and energy to balance the academic demands with the time required to excel, on the field and court.   We applaud our student athletes!

Our athletic department, mission, is to offer academic support to our students, assist them through their academic progress, urge them to reach their athletic potential, within an educational environment that promotes transfer to four-year schools.

While winning games is a high priority for our athletic department, developing character and learning valuable life lessons, through the participation in sports is the ultimate goal.  We believe the participation in sports closely models life itself and provides an opportunity for students to grow and mature into the world.

We invite you to, “Jump on Board” this year and experience the “Valley College Pride” with us this season as we cheer our athletes to reach their goals! Your support is very important to us.

Sincerely,

Jim Fenwick

The Zone"

Our student athletes refer to our new computer lab, as “The Zone”, or the endzone that gets them where they want to go!

The new state of the art, satellite computer lab that was recently completed, within the new Community

Service Building, next to the Monarch Athletic Center. The "Zone" is funded and supported by the Equity Grant on campus.

This facility is available to all student athletes from 9am to 2pm daily! English and Math tutors are provided every Tuesday and Wednesday.  The computer center is the home of our athletic counselor, Reggie Reed (pictured on the right). Reggie is available to meet with all student athletes regarding their counseling needs. Full supervision is provided by John Fonua (pictured on the left).  As the supervising monitor, John collaborates with head coaches of all sports to ensure their teams study hall goals are met.

We are fortunate for the Equity Grant funding and proud of what we have to offer our student athletes to stay committed to their academic goals.
