Today’s emphasis on community readiness [floods, earthquakes, tsunamis and other disasters] has created an unprecedented demand for trained professionals that can protect public health, safety and welfare. Public officials and agencies throughout our nation rely on hundreds of thousands of workers to coordinate evacuation and security efforts. The United States Department of Labor has predicted that in up-coming years there will be more than a 30% increase in the demand for employees in areas related to Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Law Enforcement. According to the Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook, the field of Law Enforcement has over one million people at the national level. There is a growing need for workers not only in the traditional fields of police, sheriff and highway patrol, but also in governmental agencies such as the Bureau of Alcohol; Firearms and Tobacco; Bureau of Customs; Bureau of Diplomatic Security and Department of Homeland Security. As a result, there is a significant increase in demand for appropriately trained professionals. As of this writing we look forward to an improved economic outlook.
