The Tech Prep/School
to Career Academies are educational partnerships between Los Angeles
Valley College; sixteen (16) Los Angeles Unified School District High Schools;
and eighteen (18) public and private employers. The purpose of the Academies
is to introduce high school students to rewarding careers in public
service and to motivate them to continue their education beyond high
school graduation to complete the Associate and Baccalaureate Degrees.
The Tech Prep/School to Career Academies introduce high school students to Career Paths which extend from Grades 9 to 16. Each Academy provides the "work-based" component to "school-based" Career Paths in Computer Science Information Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Electronics, Engineering, Fire Technology, Wildland Fire Technology, Business, Accounting and Law. To enroll students must be recommended by the High School Tech Prep Academy Faculty Advisor. Funding for each Academy is provided through Tech Prep Grants from the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office and the California Department of Education.
