The Technology Committee

Purpose of Committee: Provide vision, leadership planning and coordination for campus-wide computing, telecommunications, and technology in general. Makes recommendations to the Council and the college President on computing systems and services, campus network and applications and other technology issues as they arise. Develops and implements a comprehensive long-range technology plan addressing the computing and technology needs of the college through the next few years, including: computer systems and services, network development, equipment and training needs, institutional telecommunications and instructional technology applications. Oversees the use of the TTIP, TMAP, and Block Grant equipment funds related to technology.
Long-term goals: 1. Develop and expand campus student technology centers to provide for open access for all students to complete college related work (in cooperation with the Learning Center).
  2. Encourage curriculum development and revision to incorporate the use of computers in each instructional program as appropriate.
  3. Organize use of computer laboratory and instructional classrooms and facilities with an eye for college-wide needs vis-à-vis staffing, space, equipment and budget.
  4. Develop a method of accounting for all student use of equipment and labs to capture all WSCH available to the college instructional program. Undertaken by Student Services with recommendations from Committee (SmartCards)
  5. Develop a plan for the purchase and/or lease, replacement maintenance and repair of equipment
  6. Develop a plan for Internet Access for all students Recommendation for DS3 service which increased bandwidth
  7. Develop college wide computer use policies for student use of college computers.
  8. Develop a plan for providing computers and computer access for all faculty members who are interested in using technology as part of their professional duties. Recommended the Academic Computing Specialist position Technology reestablished as a line item in the college budget
  9. Develop a responsive staff development training program (operator’s license) to keep pace with the acquisition of equipment and software (survey all periodically).
