The Student Services Committee

Purpose of Committee: To coordinate a variety of student support services with student success as their common goal.
Long-term Goals:  
  Goals of Student Services Committee
  1.Established multicultural college community
   
  2. Installation of defibrillators for medical emergencies
   
  3. Student Equity: Examined transfer data for proportionality vis-á-vis Valley’s ethnic composition. Program Review document in place.
   
  4. Improved transfer rate to UC and CSU
   
  5. Reduced drop-out rate for at-risk population
   
  6. Program review for the following Student Services entities completed: Admissions and Records: Document in Place Outreach: Document in Place
   
   
  ADDITIONAL GOALS
  1. Improve Transfer Rate
 

Design: Assess the validity of Transfer Center-sponsored activities for positive impact upon rate of transfer.

  2. Increase Retention
 

Design: Examine intervention practices upon a selected sample of at-risk students* for positive impact upon retention.

  3. Improve the number of under-represented groups in LAVC’s Transfer Alliance Program
 

Design: Recruit minority groups from neighboring high schools. Consult with recruitment officers.

  4. Format preliminary program service for Counseling.
 

Design: Establish counseling activities/component grid for initial review. Identify areas in need of improvement

  5. Collect data on all special programs/assignments in Counseling
 

Design: Request Counseling Chair to initiate data collection.

  6. Explore availability of scholarships for community college students.
 

Design: Expand present data-base on availability of scholarships

  for all vocational and academic student groups.
  7. Sponsor Multicultural Awareness Week. Diversity Sub-committee will work jointly with ASU
  8. Monitor Program review for student activities, ASU ­Deadline: June 2003
  *Operationally defined by the Essential Skills Activity
