The Reading Center

The Reading Center is located in Bungalows 45 and 46.

 

The Reading Center is home to Developmental Communications 22 A-E.

Dev Com 22A-E Communications Laboratory
(5) NDA RPT2.  Prerequisite: None.
This course is offered on a Pass/No Pass basis only. Open entry/open exit.
Lab:  18 hours over the semester, in The Reading Center.
Developmental Communications 22 is a modular, multi-media program teaching phonics, spelling, vocabulary, reading and study skills. Students may enroll sequentially in up to three units per semester. In each program, students work at their own time and pace.

We invite you to explore the world of literacy in the LAVC Reading Center.
The Reading Center provides courses from rudimentary literacy skills for new and recent immigrant students to advanced college level vocabulary and medical terminology.  Whether you want to improve your reading skills, build a better foundation for your academic career or just learn to speed read, we have the tools to help you succeed.

Lab hours are tentative and subject to the availability of faculty and staff. 
The lab gets busy; it is your responsibility to schedule your time accordingly to complete your coursework before the end of the semester.  Each unit requires 18 hours.  Students are allowed a maximum of 3 units per semester.

Students will be given a timesheet and syllabus and will be required to sign in and out of the lab.  Signing others in or out of the lab is considered cheating and will not be tolerated.  It is your responsibility to sign in and out.  Students who fail to sign out of the lab will not receive credit for that time.

The Reading Center has a local network with 25 computers and does not have Internet access.  This is a study environment and silence in enforced.
